Beware of low flying longrods!

On saturday, shooting at SoCo2, my bow was on the rest while I was filling my face with a sandwich. A particularly zealous gust of wind took the bow off the rest and placed it on the floor.

A quick look over the bow confirmed that the expensive bits were OK, but the glue had given up on the cartel extender and the threaded socket had moved about 1/2" up the rod. I really didn't want to take it off so I checked it was still tightly on, not being able to move it any further, I didn't dig around for the spare I have.

After a little while, when shooting, my longrod and V-bar followed my arrow towards the target, not being aerodynamic and considerably heavier it only made it a yard or two. This was followed by mick giggling me having a minor tantrum and walking off towards the shop effing and blinding.

lesson learned : next time I suspect something's damaged I'll take it off the bow..if only to save the laughter..

The subject of extender repair came up on sagi a few days ago and they said a repair must be made using araldite. Under no circumstances shound you use super glue as it has some effect on the carbon. I am not sure if this is true but worth bearing in mind.

not to mention that superglue is brittle..

I suppose I ought to check the longrod for damage from where it made an emergency landing...

I still don't know which was funnier, the longrod impersonating a bare-shaft, or tarkers' tab bouncing across the waiting line a la "teddy thrown in corner".

I know I shouldn't have laughed, but it was so funny.

Picture the sequence: Release, longrod hitting deck, arrow hitting boss, etc, etc, etc.

Twang, boing, thunk, mutter mutter mutter, sling tab, mutter mutter mutter, stomp off to shop.

Sorry, Tarkers, but at least you can rejoice in a well earned Fonz.

Mick
