Sorry Numpty....its wasn't [i]the[i] Numpty, of course.

We rent time from a rugby club, which is supposed to be private, and there is a lovely woodland walk just across the stream, but people treat the club like open space, despite warnings. We have dog walkers, runners, cyclists, baton twirlers, and pipe band leaders (including taped bagpipes). The local Neds (read Chavs in England) used to get hang around ("can I get a shot of your bow mate?") but got chucked off regularly and have now given up. Its the folk who think they have priority across the field and stick their hands up as if they are doing us a favour that really get my goat.
Has anyone heard of the Daedalus Award? Its for people doing the most stupid things (usually for a laugh or as an experiment to see what will happen), who effectively are removing the most useless part of society, ie themselves, from the genepool.
I like the idea of the stuffed and shot Guy Fawkes idea. Will suggest it.

I think that GNAS does cover the insurance bit, but I've never got anything in my kit for wiping blood off arrows, so I'd rather not.

We had problems with Hockey players at Adel (eventually had to build a fence for them to walk behind - didn't stop all of them). I remember one particularly bad occasion when a longbow archer got fed up, and carefully strafed the path (most accurate bit of longbow shooting I've ever seen - in fact, the only acc.....) when there was no one there, and left the arrows in. Hockey Valkyries were then seen to pass, pause, look at the arrows and giggle. I approached and gave them a friendly warning, to be told "Them arrows were so obviously just stuck in the ground.."

Our club has just managed to secure the use of a great field, but there is one issue - dog walkers. The field itself is surrounded by a fence, and there is no public right of way, but people still use the field. We do currently use the field on-and-off, and people just love to walk behind (and across) the target range.

How have other clubs, politely, asked people that do not belong on the field to not walk across it? Is there any simpel way of stopping these people going on to private land without having to hire bouncers to keep them off?

I think you'll find that's the Darwin Awards... But I know what you meant!

If you have a regular culprit that ignores your notices then the best thing to do in my opinion is to just let them have thier little amble and ignore them.
Maybe give a loud blast on a whistle as per gnas instructions and then restart once they are clear even if there are only two of you on the line.
These sort of people consider that rules don't apply to them even though they're for their benefitand they love it if they think they are causing you some inconvenience.
Try asking said culprit if he would mind giving a wave before he walks close enough to the targets to be in danger to make sure you have seen him so you can stop, be friendly and smile.
There are always going to be idiots that think they know better.
You could also tell him that as he's obviously too stupid to understand the writing on the safety notices that a strategy has to be in place to gaurantee his/her safety and that of their dogs.

We regularly have pheasants walk around the top of our field, its fair game if you can hit one with an accidental stray arrow, just mind the carbon splinters

Those people are prime examples of Darwin Award Wannabe's...

Whilst reading, i saw a post from someone about them maybe surving getting hit by an arrow... After putting an arrow into ballistics gel to demonstrate why people should listen to the coaching (this was at cadets) i had to refletch an arrow, after cutting it out of the gel, and i shot it from 50 meters away.. most people won't get back up after an arrow hits them.

Danger on the shooting field!

This does seem to be a country wide problem from the posts! We are lucky on our field that its in the corner of an old MOD installation. Big fence with razor wire on top running down the side and back of the field you get the picture!
A while back some youths who were smoking some funny substances were faining to run onto the field mid shoot! After the second stoppage they were invited over to see if they could stick a carbon arrow into the boss with their bare hands! Aledgedly they did get it to stick in if rather loosley. They were asked to stand back to admire their handy work when upstepped an unlimited compounder and loosed an arrow right through the boss and into the grass from about 10 yds away. After a few choice swear words realisation of what a bow and arrow could do smacked home they retreated rather quickly. Although they still appear on the adjacent field to smoke the funny smelling cigarettes never again have they approached the shooting field or disprespected any of our archers. So if you get persistant invaders do invite them over for a demo it may change their mind.

Read some of the GNAS rules of shooting the other day, and I think the gist of the insurance regs is that, passers by need to walk up to some kind of barrier. We use a line of hazzard tape strung between poles. It won't stop a determined jaywalker, but it should give them a clue they are not where they are supposed to be.
