Ooh! My Piles Are Playing Up!

Well folks, the time has come to share a rather embarrassing predicament with the good people of Archery Interchange. Piles.
I don't know what the problem is, but it seems to have manifested itself since I increased the poundage of my bow. Maybe it's all that pulling and heaving; the physical strain of trying to get though the clicker . I can't quite put my finger on it, but my piles have started to pop out.
I know, I know... The sensible thing would be to gently warm them up over a gas stove and ease them back in with a pair of Mole grips, but I'm afraid I may have left it a bit late.
At last night's handicap shoot, all seemed to be going well. I was building up a respectable score despite my recent lack of practice. I was even on course to finish somewhere in the ballpark of my PB. But then disaster struck: I knocked the arrow, came to full draw, eased through the clicker, and WHOOSH!, the arrow screamed off to the left like a pre-menstrual Banshee.
Yep, you guessed it. I must have heaved so hard on my arrow to remove it from the boss that the strain had made one of my piles pop out.
To say that it stiffened my shaft would be something of an understatement, as was born out by my final score: exactly 10 points less than my PB.
So if I could offer one word of advice it would be to check your piles before every shot. You might get some funny looks, but there are few things affect your score quite so much as shooting arrows without points.
Can I award myself a Fonz?

Yes you can

And I should point out to the good people of the forum that I did offer to poke Goldy's piles back in but he refused...

RE: Ooh! My Piles Are Playing Up!

I take it you either don't use a clicker, or you set up way too short

But yes, when drawing arrows, make use of the time on the way back to the line to look over the points (or piles!), nocks and fletchings, and ideally check the shafts for damage if you can.

RE: Ooh! My Piles Are Playing Up!

Gold Flinger,

Your post brings up so many descriptive visions related to haemorrhoids that I believe a "Fonzie" is indead in order. I was squirming on my chair as I read your post.

But then I realised, bugger, what we call a "head" or "point" over here, you call a "pile".

"Can't put my finger on it...." "Ease them back in with a pair of mole grips" "the strain had made one of my piles pop out"

Oh, the mental images that these words bring to mind!

Brian

RE: Ooh! My Piles Are Playing Up!

Murray, as soon as the clicker went I knew it wasn't right - it sounded wrong and it did seemed to happen too quickly. But what can I say, it's a reflex action: when my bow says "click" I loose!
(Glad you enjoyed my story Frommy! )
