I was very proud of myself yesterday, turned up to the second frostbite of the season all wrapped up warm, hat, gloves, 3 layers of clothes, flask of coffee etc etc.
Arrived at the shooting field, set up the bosses in the sunshine, the hut was in the shadow of a stand of trees, no noticable wind. It was

cold!
We set a fire in a 1/2 oil drum, old faces, lumps of wood, empty cigarette packets etc etc, dished out mulled wine, assembled our gear
and then....
time came for the sighters....
shooting wearing a glove on my bow hand allowed the bow to move that little bit too much...so they went back in the case
my string caught on the sleeve of my sweatshirt, I though no problem I'll use a tubigrip.....no longer elastic...ok so I rolled up my sleeve and it worked insofar as my string didn't *noticably* catch on the second set of sighters.
Then my first 3 arrows came along
I recorded a 2,1,M as the string caught again....many profanities were uttered
Went back in to the hut and strapped my arm & sweatshirt with bungees.....with no better results on the next 3. Other attempts were made to strap the sleeve out of the way, old bow strings, spare bracers and such to no avail. My total for the first 12 was 35, with 4 misses.
I ended up shooting the second and third dozens in a polo shirt, getting them into the target as quickly as I could and then putting my jacket back on and huddling round the fire, much to the amusement of those around me
At the end of the shoot I was 29 under my PB - I say PB, this is only the second time I have turned out on a cold winter morning for an outside shoot, at which I scored 252.
We live and learn...
