| It seems a shame that archers have to try and find fault with others, before possibly looking at their own form. There are only so many people that can fit into what can be perceived as advantageous targets - but their is nothing you can do as an archer (unless maybe chop all of the tress down the day before). We all hear stories about how a venue has brilliant positions to shoot in, but without some proper analysis such as comparing archers handicap against score acheived in particular positions over a number of years ... Just get on and shoot, and do your best with what you have been given. At this weekends shoot at Lilleshall I suspect that the archers nearest the banking will take the majority of top spots, some say that the banking is a help. I suspect it is more to do with the fact the archers at that end were, Simon T, Tom B, Michael P, Grant W etc. |

| whether it actually helps or not i dont know - but i do know some (top)archers do kick up a fuss about where they shoot and ask for specific targets on their entry form

As the wind was predominantly from behind the comments of others "The results are in and as I suspected...all those under the trees..top scores..and the further you went from the trees..the worse the scores." can't be backed up as the winner on a preferential target was only 2 mtrs away from someone on a non preferential target, and 6mtrs from the author. . Also as the field faces directly north according to Google maps Bristol, Avon BS37 7PN, UK - Google Maps immediately to the left of the oval running track in the top right corner of this link) zoom in and see (the shooting line was approx 10 mtrs back from the bridge) and the wind was from the south. I must point out that at no point did I say that there was no advantage to be had from shooting close to the trees (see OB for this comment which I specifically took umbridge too). I wouldn't and the reason was because those archers who were there on the day and will testify to, was that the wind was from the south because the flags on the targets were flying that way (all day). I must thank those archers who were there on the day and read the blog entries now gone and sent me comments of thanks for pointing out the facts and as for those commenting upon others comments written as gospel in blogs. Im sorry to see that really but to pass comment on someones integrity when the facts were not represented correctly. I asked for an answer to those comments made as they were not fair to the tournament organiser or the other 24 archers on targets 1 - 8! A simple poor post that should have been retracted really. The answer "Dear Jock" was not relevant in any way to my original reply to the offensive post, infact answering questions about tree lines I didn't pose and wasn't relevant really. As for OB decision, (although hes still posting so hopefully it won't be long before he's back full time) Im sorry he has decided to "lurk"! But as he has been said before on the forum if your going to pass comment be prepared to back it up! OB has posed many questions of others who have posted comments he didn't agree with in the same manner in the past. I backed up my comments but had them twisted in the Dear Jock reply. Dave is sometimes entertaining and would be a loss to the forum bearing in mind the 50 years of experiences he shares here. Come back OB |

| Thank you for the detailed reply IMPA. I've tried to stay away from the majority of this later argument purely for the fact that I know the tournament organiser and don't want to get involved in a personal dispute or for anything I say to reflect on her credibility. However, I would be willing to bet that target positions were allocated on a first come first served basis whilst trying to keep a variation of clubs on each target (I don't think any target had two members from the same club, but correct me if I'm wrong) and not giving any one particular archer preference over another in shooting position. Personally I would like to that the TO for the work she put in on the day - it was a smoothly run event and (despite the weather) I think most people went away happy with the day - I for one did, it was great fun even though I didn't shoot as well as I'd hoped (and was in an "advantageous position"). I would like to leave one passing comment - would it have been awarded record status if it was thought that one part of the shooting line would be at a significant advantage to the other half of the same division? I wouldn't have thought so, although again, I could be wrong. I hope to see many of the competitors again at the FITA Star to be held in July or at other competitions (particularly the BTC and the Berkshire Open as those are the big ones I'm entered into this season). |

| I entered the Prem their and don't care if im at the edge or the middle. I shot in the middle of the field last year and shot a season best of 1220. As far as Im concerned evey field has it's little up and downs, by trees is not always an advantage be cause the wind can swirl On a happier note I do hope that they have the burgers their for Lunch again I ate my own body weight last year
