Clubs in Cornwall

Having moved from, what seemed to me, a well run club in Leicestershire to deepest, darkest Cornwall - I'm hoping for a little advice.

I currently live in Penzance and there seems to be several clubs around here.

Mount's Bay Archery Club
Lizard Peninsula
Redruth

Does anyone know anything about any of these clubs?

I would like more than just a place to shoot etc, where I shot before there were some seasoned archers that were a wealth of advice and would go out of their way to help. Is this something that happens at EVERY club, or was I just lucky? I'd prefer somewhere that can help 'bring me on".

Much appreciated.

Hi Stace,

I am based in the south west, in the DCAS region, albeit a long way from your neck of the woods. There is also another club based in your area, the archers of the west. These archers are the most active in the region and a large contingent of the archers of the west are members of the county team, and just recently one of their young lads has joined the GB squad. They are at a lot of major competitions and tend to travel as a gang. This would be worth bearing in mind as you will come to realise that living in the south west means clocking up a lot of miles if you are an active tournament archer. Redruth archers are good too, and they own their own ground, so I would guess you would be able to shoot at any time. One of the members of redruth runs a franchise from wales archery, so you will be able to get kit easily too.

Oooh, by the way, so you don't put your foot in it, Archers of the West was a split from Redruth Archers some years ago, although there is little animosity between them and they shoot at each others venue, it's probably best you are aware.

I should have mentioned, check out the website http://www.dcas.org.uk/ if you haven't found it already!

Thanks for your help fellas, especially Judge.

I popped over to see the Archers of the West tonight and introduce myself. Everything seems perfect. They have a good bunch of 'active' members and a fair few coaches that will certainly help improve my shooting.

Alex, I'm sure Lizard are a superb club but with hindsight, I think they're a little too far away compared to the others. Thanks for the offer of info though.

can recommend Archers of the West, as a member of the DCAS county squad I have alot of good friends there. they are a good bunch and are very helpful.
You will learn alot from them all especially from my coach Jan when she is there, most of the time she is coaching Scott who is in the GB squad.
Hopefullly see you at some tournaments this summer. You will know who I am as I am using the load one.....(ask Emma)

Went down to Archers of the West last night and actually shot a few ends.

First arrow went AWOL but every other at least hit the target, which I don't seem too bad considering I hadn't shot in six months.

The club do seem very small though with only half a dozen people there on Tuesday and Thursday.

I thought there would be more than that for some reason.

Never mind.... I thoroughly enjoyed myself with the folks that were there. They seem like a superb bunch of people and I'm sure I'll learn a lot.

I seem to have caught the bug again... and I'm thrilled to bits!
