sighting issues

Hi I'm having problems shooting/aiming
I have to close my left eye as I cant shoot with both eyes open due to being slightly double sighted. I find it difficult keeping my eye shut and wonder if anyone has the same problem? I have thought about wearing an eye patch and wonder if anyone out there wears one for the same reason?
Thanks

If you do go for an eyepatch, use a translucent one. That way your system is not trying to sort out whether it's day or night. The optimum approach, however, would be to train yourself always to aim with both eyes open, even if this means always having to sight through the left of two apparent rings.

Learning to use both eyes is best, you can't forget to take both eyes with you, as opposed to a patch.

I find closing one eye tenses me up a lot. So I'm learning to use both now.

As I said I am double sighted so if I keep both eyes open I see twice as many bosses and they stray further appart at greater distances.

its like looking through a spotting scope with both eyes open and both sight pictures being the same size

keeping both eyes open is not an option

Um, seeing two targets with both eyes open is the norm, I would say. You just have to choose the one you aim at consistently. With practice, the "other" target disappears from your vision (your brain is good at ignoring things).

I have never seen just a single target, when aiming with both eyes open.

One tactic you can use when starting out is to address the target with one eye closed, then open them both as you continue the draw - that way you have some confidence that you've chosen the right one to aim at...

As for the unhelpful contributions: Please do not feed the troll.

Sorry Furface,

Just realised that I've lost the thread of the thread and that it was paplazaru who started it all off with his request for assistance re being double sighted. My previous sentiments are vaild for him as I'm having problems with eye dominance at the moment; is this the same problem?

As to furface I really get a kick out of my old KG1s. Got one recently from a wonderful lady called Rachel Fenwick who represented England in the '76 Olympics at Montreal. Rachel is still active in archery in the Somerset region.

To Rik, hello from Aberdeen via Moira, Lisburn where home really is. I rather like your idea of making a mental note of starting with one eye and continuing that through the draw. Got terribly confused the other night when using my compound. My left eye was drawn to the image in the sight lens as I drew the bow. Being Right handed but Left eye dominant is interesting.
I find that relaxing is the hardest part to learn with archery......I have much to learn from my coach Colin aka thewayitwas.

See you on Sunday Colin.

Ain't archeryfun!!!!! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

Alan
