Cleaning the arrow before fletching

I've got ACC arrows - just wondering what is the best stuff to use to clean all the glue off the shaft before I start fletching?

acc cleaning

Many things can be used but isopropanol (boots sell for £5 for 500 ml)
methylated spirit is ok I was told to avoid nailpolish remover as it attacks the carbon bond to the ali. As long as what you use evaporates off without leaving a residue it should be ok.

Simply scrape the old glue off with a dull blade (such as a stanley knife or craft knife). Always scrape towards the knock otherwise you might get the blade underneath the carbon wrap.

Once the glue is removed, washing up liquid is great for removing any grease or oil before applying new fletches.

Acetone (cheapo nail varnish remover without cuticle softening additives) or iso-whatsit-alcohol is great on aluminimum shafts, but it is not recommended for use on carbon

I use a Zip strip for cleaning hard debris left on the arrow (expensive, but virtually impossible to damage an arrow using one).
Then I use Isopropanol to clean the shafts. Safe to use on both ali, carbon and carbon-ali shafts.
I also use it to clean the base of the fletchings.

I have never had a fletching come loose, or damaged an arrow doing this, and I've done one or two.

Kae.

For cleaning use Isopropanol as previously stated. An alternative to a zip strip is the hooked Stanley knife blade that carpet fitters use. You can buy a packet of them for a few pounds. Because the blade is curved it follows the arrow contour and doesn't dig in. Tip of the day.
