As I said in my post, we are buying it as a sort of backstop but it would be good to know it will stop the arrows OK.

| As funny as it sounds, I like the idea of being able to get a layered foam boss and just spray painting the target face on it, like it was suggested earlier, at least this way it saves the cost in having to order new paper faces and also it will be good for closer grouping without wondering if the paper target will begin to tear after so many arrows ![]() £19.99 is a good price for a foam boss, but I'm mighty tempted to a layered foam boss as I would prefer having a bit of extra space around the target in case of any stray arrows, it would sure be alot better than the homemade boss I got now lolWillie |

if you wall paper paste your target face to flat cardboard (cut from a packing box) as we do they last alot longer and do not tear as much as non backed faces, also search for a recent thread on DIY boss. you'll find how to make a cardboard target boss here http://www.archery-interchange.com/f...iy-bosses.html | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| If you want your target that: - Is cheap - Any size you want - Stops anything you throw at it - You can leave outside all year without deteriorating Then get some big netbags from the greengrocer (he gets his potatoes in them) and stuff them with plastic shopping bags, or even better, if you live in a rural area, with film wrap (the stuff they pack hay in nowadays, all farmers have loads of the used stuff). Targets are easily kept in place with some paperclips. Guaranteed to stop any arrow. If it gets dodgy from hitting the same spot everytime, just take out the wrap in the centre, rearrange it and put it back in again.. Normal size bag is 60x85 cm but you can get them up to 1.5 cubic meters :-) Opa |

| Thanks guys ![]() TS, I checked out the word document, but there was no image in the file, showing what the finished product was supposed to look like. The homemade boos that I have, is merely a 49x40x18cm box with 3 layers of old clothing folded up in the back, then covered up with some 12 - 15 layers of cardbord that are laid on top of the folded clothing, and then secured using standard cellotape, but am planning to use duct tape as a better temporary measure, which surely enough it is able to stop arrows pretty well, from what used to be a 35lb bow @ 10ft. I guess that there are many ways of making a good home target boss, that are yet to be tried and tested, but the one that you've mentioned does look to be pretty decent, but saying that, I would be shooting on a daily basis, purely for the enjoyment and for the practice of wanting to get better, and so, I don't know how long a cardboard boss would last too long. | YouTube - Target Bag i made a variation of the above-- i went to the $2 dollar shop and picked up a woven plastic bag ($4 ??) and then filled it with rags (zip and buttons cut off) hung it off two bits of rope in the shed door way. it has taken my recurve and a friends 70# 3d rig at 10-15m no problem. it's about 30cm thick and fully stuffed. edit--- however, i only shoot point into it that are flush with the shaft. if there is a bulge or lip on the back of the point it will catch in the woven strand making the bag. this annoys me greatly. i bought cheap allumins to solve it and if a disaster happens the busted arrows is not worth the tears. |

| My first boss at home my dad made by buying 2 bales of hay, strapping them together, added a bit of old carpet to the back and wrapped it in clingfilm, then strapped to 2 of our old breakfast table stools. Worked really well as we used it for about a year and a half (until our club gave away some of our old straw bosses from the club and we got one which replaced the self made one) total cost of the boss my dad made - £10 lol ![]() Gemma ![]()

| Hi Gemma, how are you? ![]() It's great to read more replies from people on this side of the Irish Sea ![]() It sounds like a pretty good boss that your dad made, I had contemplated on looking to get a few bales of straw, but then again I would imagine that straw bosses can be a little bit more prone to wear and tear, but saying that, it is definitely alot better than using cardboard, clothing and cellotape lolI'll pop out to homebase tonight to see if I can find anything useful in making a good target boss, but I'll not be going with high hopes lolI wish that I knew of a farmer that has an old dissused barn that I could practice ion, that would be sweet ![]() Willie P.S. What do you guys think of these target bosses? Exhibit A ![]() |
