My 7 year old has one of those. which is fine for him. my arrows come out of the other side. they only 2" thick. i think they are only designed for training bows. although a guy at work recons he shoots his longbow into one.

i would recommend the tuff shot. ordered off the bay 40 quid inc postage. ordered monday here tuesday. merlins archery ebay shop.

Exhibit A

I have had a couple of these - fom Decathlon - and they last no time at all (see my other thread about this)

I've waited to chip in till I'd tried this for a while, but here's what I've been doing until I can get across the channel to get me a foam boss -
Make a 1m square board out of some wood - any old thing will do, then ask around friends, neighbours etc. to see if someone is chucking out an old carpet. I got some hessian-backed stuff. Don't know if foam-backed will work.
Cut at least six 1m-square pieces of the carpet and fix them to the board with screws and large washers. I have found that this thickness of carpet will stop arrows from my 30lb recurve without them penetrating and sticking into the wood.
This was an emergency measure as I can't easily get a proper foam boss over here, and stramit board isn't so easy to get hold of either. And it's expensive. OK, so the carpet will wear out, but if you've got it free, and can probably get more the same way, then so what?
At the very least, this carpet board will make a good mount for a straw boss, to catch any arrows that penetrate it. That's what I originally made it for, then used just the carpet board as a boss when the crp straw one (above) wore out.

Graham

Depends on how you value your time I guess - I would rather buy a boss/foam target than spend eons making one (having done both incidently!)

I'm retired - therefore more time than money.... Anyway, as I've said before, I'm over 120km from the nearest decent archery store, and they don't have foam bosses anyway. At 99 euros apiece for the straw ones that look similar to the type recommended by most people here, they're pretty expensive too. Also, note that I said the "carpet board" was originally intended as a "soft" backing for a straw boss, and in that role it's well worth the effort. It took me about 1/2 an hour to make, once I had the wood back part, and the whole lot cost me nothing! Being of North West England origin, "summat for nowt" rather appeals.
