although I do prefer my arrows pulled out straight, they cost enough so deserve some consideration.
I did wonder if anyone was ever going to consider the stress in flight as opposed to the stress in pulling!

You really should be pulling arrows as close to boss as possible regardless of their makeup. Recently I had been shooting on my own most of the afternoon and on my last end I was joined by a fellow archer who proceeded to pull out my Axis FMJ's. I didn't take too much notice of how they were being pulled I was busy looking at scoresheets.

The next time I took them out two of my arrows flew through the air in a spiral fashion.

Earlier this week I observed the same archer pull my all carbon arrows out, they were pulled from mid way up the shaft and clearly bent like billyoh as they were pulled. I was thankful they were all carbons (which I am assuming cant easily be distorted).

Just to be highly controversial, does anyone have any experience of this happening in competitions because I would imagine it would be quite easy for an archery to sabotage a fellow competitor!

I was always told to withdraw an arrow by the hand on boss and using a gripper such as the gorrilla grip etc and straight not bend the shaft.

Also if a shaft is stuck two archers withdraw the arrow again as close to the boss as is practical and the second archer gripping the arrow directly behind the first to limit possible bending of the arrow.

I have seen many archers grip mid shaft and wonder at possible damage as the arrow is not flexing naturally along it's length as the front is rigid in the boss and it is not flexing under it's own weight etc as it is being bent by an outside force exerting force constantly in one direction ( after all when it hits the boss it does not flex just one way it reaches a point were the flex is so great it overcomes the inertia and rebounds in the opposite direction, with someone pulling you can easily exceede this limit without care IMHO)

For this exact reason I was told when I started shooting in competition that you never pull someone else's arrows unless they ask you to, then do so very carefully. I always pull my own arrows and leave other shooters arrows alone unless asked to help by pulling for the score keeper, or something similar.

The norm here is for two archers to do the pulling for all four on the boss - one of the others doing the scoring and the last doing the scorers score....

Everyone know the force to pull the arrow out must be square onto the target. What I tell beginners and do myself is make sure the pulling forearm is touching the shaft and then a straight pull can be applied.
