I haven't found the need so far. I just stick 'em in the freezer. Most modern bottles have enough space in them anyways, and will expand a little too. never had one bust yet (famous last words!!) Another couple of tips: Wet a cloth with cool water and wear it round your neck / on your head (or wet a hat) Get a small spray bottle (superdrugs do them I think), and fill with water, then just regularly spray your face/neck with water.

you can get hats & neckties with a substance in that absorbs water when soaked, then allows it to evaporate slowly whilst you wear it - with quite a good cooling effect. Try outdoor/expedition type shops, like Rohan also for hot weather gear.

I tried the 'frozen bottles' trick for a competition one time, and ran out of drinkable water - it wasn't defrosting quickly enough (damn British summers ).
