A cheap alternative to insect repellents

Suffer from insect bites during the summer months and don't want to spend a fortune of expensive insect alternatives?

Try Avon's Skin-So-Soft moisturising spray in Woodland Fresh fragrance.

It's cheap and easily available and I've found it to work extremely well.

WARNING TO MEN

It can make you smell like a tart though

I can vouch for this stuff, introduced to it when I was on summer camp in the US.

We were told it is used by the Forestry Commission guys in the US, because it has plant extracts in the insects ignore you (make sure it is the woodland version though), and it makes your skin really soft .

My mom has been using it since we were wee. You can also let it down a bit and spray it on your pets. Keeps fleas and ticks away, too!

Yeah I have to second your opinion on the Avon product. The Scots use it up on the north west coast so must be good.

My mate was told that they don't like what comes out of your pores from eating marmite. Whilst up in Scotland shooting he spooned jars of the stuff down his neck. Not convinced it did him any good, but it kept the girls away

Definitely works but for best results do not rub it in - just spray it on and leave it as a thin oily layer on your skin. Even writing about midges is making me itch!

My wife swears by brewers yeat tablets (available from yr local health food shop - H&B £3.50 for 500). I was skeptical at first but last year I was (mostly) clear from mosquito bites for the first time in 5 years.

we take 2 each day...and so far this year no bites..and I don't smell like a tart

I've heard that eating marmite helps because of vitamin B, and that vitamin B tablets work for this reason.

No clue if it's an urban legend or the truth though, sorry!

Definately works, but you need to eat marmite (or take tablets) every day for about a month before it really works well. Which reminds me marmite on toast for breakfast, yum
