Usually in my club we just let them get wet, and then stick them in the microwave when we go in for dinner

Hi, i did sub-aqua for many years and when i had to record my decompression times to take underwater with me you could'nt beat an ordinary pencil.

If you make a small 'pad' out of plastic -any thing will do- say like part of a washing up bottle but then that was nicely shaped to fit around my arm but you get the idea we are looking at light weight here, it works well but the best i found was to cover this with scotch tape -white tape used in decorating masking- and record results on this then transfer later to score pad or in my case dive records.

I find that a blue Staedler stick 430 Medium (sound geeky knowing the full model name, but there's one on my desk.) works very well in wet weather, and they are as cheap as chips, being Staedlers version of the BIC Biro.

Only problem is they tend to sprout a leak after a while.

If you want waterproof paper think of the people that are likely to use them - geologists. At least my brother swears to my mum that only the really expensive pads of the stuff work on his uni field trips.

Edit - just looked on ebay (of course) and they do a wide variety of the stuff (and for less than my brother claims it costs him)

If you get in touch with Andrew Neal. He organises the YAA tournaments and we have used the paper on and off for at least 10 years.

You can usually buy waterproof paper form camping or army surplus type shops.

In my experience it works a treat out in the sodding wet, half way up Pen'y'Fan writing down map coordinates!

Here some that can be laser printed on, quite pricey though.

AQL4: A4 Aqualaser printable paper 250 sheets

13p an A4 sheet. Mind you, if you were running a tournament in the pissing rain and you had to charge people 13p extra to not have their sheet fall apart on them, I doubt you'd get many complaints!
