| thought this method was going to fail the other night. Shot a really bad arrow at 70m and didn't see where it went. Both mrs robbo and i were barefoot trying to find it with no real idea where it was. Time came to pack up and we both thought we'd give it one more go, within 2 mins i heard the heart warming 'i've found it'...hoora for that. another triumph for the no shoes technique and another ace saved from a certain lawn mower death.

| I thought you were having a laugh when you started the thread saying walk barefoot to find arrows, but having seen how many people do it I see you wasn't. It just shows you learn something everyday !!! I guess this method is ok so long as you don't get people walking dogs across the shooting field, you know how much dogs like sniffing and crouching in the edges of undergrowth.

| You have buried a couple of arrows and have a metal detector. It buzzes and you have found the first arrow. Dont move on, there may be a second or third buried underneath. This happened on sunday with a longbow archer. Well grouped in the ground, one on top of the other. |

| Our club recently did a trip to "Toys are Us" and we purchased two metal detectors for £14.99 each, these little gems find all our arrows as much as three inches deep. Soo dont be wasting your money buying top of the range when you dont need to.

| I wonder if someone could make an electronic arrow finder ? The RFID tags used in shops to try and stop shop lifters can be very thin and small - if these could be attached to the arrows it should then be possible to have some hand held electronics to locate your arrow. With a couple of foot range it would be good enough I would have thought? |

| If weight was an objection to the transmitter, then build it into the pile of the arrow in a hollowed out centre.! It's ideas like this that make forums interesting. Would a transmiter type label work inside metal? How bulky would the detector be? |

| All good questions which I dont know the answer to :-( We need to find someone who is an expert in them I know I have seen them very flat - something like 3/4" square but I dont know if they would work wrapped round an arrow Pets have them injected inside them but I dont know how big these are I have just been trying to find info on the internet, but not much luck so far I did find an electronics project for a home made detector but it doesn't say what range it has (looks cheap to make though) http://www.elektor-electronics.co.uk...d=28&art=52705 The usual detectors would be expensive because it needs to read info from them, all we need is something which detects one is there (as this claims to) |

| This problem has been getting me thinking too ! With some banning all carbon arrows, why dont they put a wire down the middle of an all carbon arrow then ? And we had quite a search last week to find an A/C/C carbon/ali mix I think RFID is the answer and I will look into it too. Would be useful on a field shoot for those moments when the arrow goes into the long grass...... R |
