finding your arrows in the rough

if you're having trouble finding an arrow in the grass because it went in flat, take your shoes off and walk normally in the area you think it is. You will easily feel the tell tale tubular lump of your arrow.

works even better than metal detectors. (not so good for you if the grass is wet though)

on the same theme, if you missed the boss either left or right but at the correct height pace out 12 steps behind the boss, there's a good chance you'll find it straight away.

12 paces or 10 yards behind the boss is exactly where most of the misses go. The threat of the rake generally makes the arrows show up.

I appreciate that you are shooting in rough terrain. We find it difficult enough with a lawn like (not) shooting field. One of our longbow archer broke 5 wooden arrows today. The first with the rake, trying to find the thing.

We had to do this when someone at our club missed all 6 carbon arrows. It workes really well. Also stick you big toe out as sometimes it helps to find them if they are buried deep.

If you do lose one, then get all the archers waiting for you to finish searching & form them up as a line, parallel to the direction the arrow was flying. They then walk forward, searching their 3' of grass (in bare feet ideally) until they have walked from one side to the other of the possible site of impact. The one furthest from the target then stays still, while the others form up the line beyond him. Then you repeat the process, but walking the other way...

Then when they've all looked for about 20 minutes, admit you never fired any anyway....and run!

The other time to run is when you find someone else's missing arrow in your quiver
