need tips for how to clean up shafts for fletching

Hi All

im going to refletch my easton redlines and i would like to know the best way to remove the old glue and bits of fletching left stuck on.

With an alluminium shaft i would've just use a stanley knife/razor blade and scrape it off, but i imagine this isnt safe with carbons as it' d take the top surface off and posibly splinter it and take chunks out.

you must teach me, how! hehe

thanks in advance for any advice!

V.

Hi there,

When I have re fletched my carbons, I have used a stanley knife, but carefully and nearly paraleel to the shaft so that you do not dig pits in your carbon.

Also make sure that you clean your shafts with meths before you stick the fletchings or they may come off again when you least expect it

hth

Sharp knife and scrape. Or buy a proper fletching stripper. The serated blades on Leathermen knives do the job well.

A job for the Cakmeister?

How is one to get the cack off your arrows that some of these new straw bosses seem prone to. Is this a job for the Cakmeister?

When you get home hot water will soften clagged on straw, then I'd recommend regular application a silicon coating from the likes of a quick shoe shine pad to prevent further build up.

These are excellent, expensive for what they are, but they are, without doubt, excellent:

Also invest in some acetone, not nail varnish remover as that contains a wax. Go outside and dip a cotton bud in acetone then wipe the shaft. If you can remove the knock first as the acetone will attack the plastic. DONT BREATH THE FUMES

The wirey green side of a washing up sponge, it's coarse enough to clean gunk off the shaft, without damaging the carbon.
