Was just looking through Archery Worlds Web Site they stock the Arten Toll Gate It sats that Qoute

"Tollgate 6" Magnetic 3 or 4 Fletch
This jig has a magnetic adjustable clamp universal nock locator ideal jig for 3 or 4 fletch "

Have you got it set to fletch 4 vanes, if so there would be an extra click when you tirn the shaft rotator. Suggest you get in touch with Arten they will probably have an easy solution.

As an engineer I think I can safely say that I had that one covered.

On your jig is there two grub screws close together on the large collar that holds the rotating bit?. If so release the hexagonal screw that secures the rotating part and it comes out. I found that there were two positional collars inside, each has a ball bearing on a spring to push them into holes set into the collars that operate as you turn the rotating part but only one has a setting for three equally spaced holes for the ball bearing to fall into. I discarded the one with uneven settings and put back the one with the equally spaced settings and it worked fine.
Hope you understand this.
But they ARE NOT equally spaced settings!

No, I am using the Arten Tollgate jig (the yellow one that sits on a toolpost at an angle), not the vertical one.[/QUOTE]

I realised that later when going through the posts - your triangle drawing made me draw the idea you were using the square bottomed one - which is why I went and marked the holes on mine and delared it to be an equilateral triangle. This is the jig I was getting unequal spacing on my thin arrows from.

I've just had a look at my Tollgate and marked the right and left on the arrow nock wedge thingy at each of its three positions. It gives me six equi-distant lines round the circle.

I think there is something else afoot here

Hi

I came across this thread after doing some "Google" in search for information re offset angles to fletchings.

I too have been using the Arten (vertical) Jig for about 2 years and it was only yesterday I noticed that the adjustable aluminium plate was not parallel to the frame of the jig, although the reference notches were at the zero position as per the indicator stickers.

Does this mean that Arten are giving a preset fletching offset?

Should fletching for target archery, using a recurve, be offset?

In answer to the spacing question between fletches :- if the jig is setup and the the vain is .5 of a mm off the centre of the arrows (along the length) when you turn the jig for the last vane, there will be a 1mm difference in the gap between the 1st and last vane. There is only one jig that i've used that has the spacings ready set and have even vanes around the arrow. The E-Z Fletch, quick, simple and easy to use, but more importantly every vane is equally spaced.

I use a Cartel upright jig and I have the same problem. I thought it might be me. The way the nock fits in the jig makes a sideways slide possible if it's not held firmly as you turn it. I've spent a lot of time (& fletchings & glue) trying to get equidistance but it just ain't happening.

Yep, i had a tollgate which had the same problem as you pushed the clamp with the vane onto the arrow , if you pushed too hard the arrow slid down the locator. The e z fletch eliminates all that, it does all three at once, equally spaced on the arrow. I'll not use anything else now. It takes me 15 minutes with quick dry glue to do 12 arrows - all straight. Got it from the USA on ebay.com. Total price £28 with postage. Cant be fairer than that. Well recommended.

Hi Paul

I spoke to the MD of re the offset that is present on my jig even though the indicator notches are set to the zero postion. He said he was unaware of the problem.

I am not sure i fully understand your problem as because the nock holder on mine is V shaped and this tends to keep the arrow firmly in the central position. I do get perfectly spaced fletchings, but I WAS giving some offset without knowing it!!

If you dissassemble the unit and put the base on a piece of paper, mark the centres of the 3 and 4 hole groups, then draw lines through the centres of each of the two groups of holes, the lines should be of equal length for each group.

EDIT Doh, you have a Cartel jig, not an Arten!:embarasse
