My Limbs are rattling (for my bow that is)

I bought a Samick Aguilla. Its my first proper bow. I connected the limbs and before putting the string on I noticed that they are loose and rattle. When I connect the string it is solid and doesn’t rattle. Is this normal, should they rattle before connecting the string?

Thanks

Thats normal. Don't worry about it.

If they did it when the bow is strung, then worry, a lot.

Also, the first time you shoot after settting up each time, the limbs may make a large cracking sound. This is the limbs settling in. Give the bow a half pull (say 3 to 4 inches) and let go (a half dry-fire) and this will set them in before you shoot the first arrow. DOn't pull all thhe way and dry fire. That will make a very loud and possibly expensive cracking nosie.

I'm not sure if they should rattle, but as the bow is designed to be dismantled, the last piece, the string, will hold it all together under tension.

If by rattle, you mean that there is play forward and back when the limbs are in the pockets, this is normal. Left - right movement is not tho', this would lead to limb & string misalignment.

Yeah it is normal.

Where the limb is loose, the bolt that locates in the grove in the bottom of the limb is the weight adjusting bolt. The reason it "rattles" is because it is not set at the highest setting. Dont worry about it. That losse fitting allows for the bow to be "wound up" to increase the poundage on the limbs. Its perfectly normal.

As Sponge said, after the bow is strung pull the sting back, no more than half way, and let go (without an arrow in). It should then make the loud bang and be set in place.

I always do this as routine after stringing the bow.

If you turn the bow horizontally, so it is flat, string near you, riser facing away; then press the string down onto your stomach where it is roughly perpendicular to each limb pocket you get a click and you shouldn't have to dry-fire.

Dunno... give it a go.

Sponge.

or you could push on the string, the part where its parallel to the locks of the limbs

My limbs rattle at this time of year, and that's before I've even got the bow out of it's case!
