Welcome on board. My home club is Blandy-Jenkins (oh no, blown my cover, damn! ). What the other guys have said is spot on, listen to the coaches. We're lucky in B-J in that we have a good coaching group, and our lead coach is excellent too, also helps out on the Welsh Target Squad (we've 2 squad members in the club). We also have a club Development Squad just starting up so we can offer support to archers who want to progress more seriously once they get going. WRT to kit, you will be expected to use club gear for the beginners' course anyway, when time comes to get your own stuff it is club practice that one of the coaches will be more than happy to come with you and help choose it. We have a good mix of all bow-styles in the club- recurves (BB and FS), long-bow and compound. We have a range of members too, from the fun-flingin' ones to those of us who are very serious... very young to much older... but we do all bump along together well. B-J is a young (club age non members) and enthusiastic club, I guess you've seen our website on www.blandy-jenkinsarchers.com ? You'll see from the notices and events pages that we are active (we have over 90 members at the moment), although the site is still very much under development. Just be nice about the website, eh, 'cos DH here is the Webmaster... Good luck for the course, and I look forward to shooting with you in future. DarkHorse |

| Geez, well done Guys. Speaking as a coach who regularly teaches beginners (and with attitude like mine, perhaps I'm in the wrong job) the two worst types of beginners are (1) the one who has never touched a bow in his life but has read every book on the subject and collected advise from every available port and is therefore a self professed expert on the finer points and (2) the kid who has been to CentreParks or scout camp and was told he/she was "the best they've ever seen". Every kid who ever goes to camp is ALWAYS the best they've ever seen. Either way, both have an annoying habbit of challenging the coaches instructions: "Place three fingers on the string underneath the arrow" "But at centreparks we did it differently to that" OR "in xyz's book it says..." just my opinion |

| Hi, I found a copy of 'Archery - Steps to Success' in a local second hand bookshop and I have found it very useful and informative. Damage

| I had a look around on the internet after my first session and noticed that point was different. Kept my mouth shut though as I figured they knew what they were doing! We start with using one finger above, this week. |
