I carry bows back and forth from the States fairly regularly. Mostly trad one piece recurves. I bought a heavy duty plastic thingy for transporting skis. It's lockable, length adjustable and has a handle, shoulder strap and wheels on one end. Wasn't cheap, about $80 but is brilliant for bows, arrows etc...

Have a good trip.
I'm not sure. One of our local guys that shot Las Vegas here in the US had an SKB crushed, broken, and it broke his Doinker rod.

I can't believe some of the airlines

For example Easyjet does not allow archery equipment to travel as
sporting goods. So you are not able to take it onboard their Aircrafts
either as hand luggage or in the hold.
That's news to me. In my recent move to NI, I asked Easyjet if I could transport a trunk full of archery equipment as "sporting goods" - they said yes. No problems at check-in. Of course you can't take it as cabin baggage...
Ryanair on the other hand are very hostile to archery gear. The rule of thumb is - check before hand, and get it in writing...

Easyjet will take archery equipment under their T&C's for weapons and it forms part of your maximum baggage allowance of 50kg (some of this total is at extra cost).

Ryanair will not allow any archery equipment on their planes, they class them as a weapon and they do not carry weapons.

Go to your local building suppliers and buy a short length of soil pipe (large diameter drain pipe) and two blank ends (these screw on and off).

Cut to just over length of bow (or bow bag preferably) and pad both ends slightly so a 'snug fit'.

I have travelled several times with two bows plus arrow container all in a Quicks deluxe longbow bag inside the soil pipe tube.

I use simmilar method for every day transportation to and from shooting, but use 3" rainwater downpipe, with blanked off ends.
Stops me bow from getting wacked around in the back of the van.
I use the same for my arrows too.

I can confirm that - I have taken packed Archery gear as 'sporting goods' equivalent to golf etc - BUT - I had to contact the Head Office and quote chapter and verse including the referring managers name! Due to lack of check in staff knowledge/competence!

Check with HO before travel and get a name!

I was recently talking to someone going on a shoot in Sweden and he is booked on Ryanair and he is allowed to take his bow on the plane ( not sure but think in the hold) however they will not allow the arrows as they consider them as projectiles. . Not sure how you can get round shooting without arrows.

A group of us last year flew ryanair but the bows were not allowed, so we packed the arrows and risers off with one person flying a different airline and stuffed the rest of the kit in with our clothes....lets face it most people have not even seen a bow before let alone a longrod, limbs, sight etc...arrows on the other hand would not be so easy to explain.......sneding the bow by courier to your destination is always a possibility..
