errr, off the top of my head;
  • American Flat Bow is not longbow, and can't be used in the same competitions as the bow's characteristics are different (I would say AFB's are easier to shoot, but thats my experience)
  • AFB's come in a range of different qualities, like longbows, and if your serious about shooting them you should research the different manufacturers (IMO Border make the best available from experience)
  • AFB's are faster than longbows and often require a stiffer spined arrow that the equivalent weighted longbow.
  • Bamboo makes the fastest bow avaialbe - to such a degree that even light poundages will reach 100yds with little effort.
  • AFB's are often not ambidextrous because of the ledge cut out.
  • Price's for flat bows range from £100 to £500+, but you get what you pay for.
Kae.

Border are the one i would go for.
Under GNAS they are classed in comps with the barebows, not sure about NFAS.
Rhi_N owns a ROB ROY made by border

[quote=Kae;106093][*]American Flat Bow is not longbow, and can't be used in the same competitions as the bow's characteristics are different /QUOTE]

I've just bought a AFB, so I'm interested in this thread.

I know enough to know it's not the same as a longbow but did wonder how it could be used in competitions?

I've just started to enter one or two comps with my recurve, don't know if I'll ever be good enough with the AFB, but interested none the less.

Thanks for any replies, I'm asking this in the Trad section as well

I shoot a Samwha 30lb flatbow which I bought from here http://www.archeryworld.co.uk/acatalog/flatbows.html - 3rd bow from the top in rosewood and I use 9/32's with 63g piles.

Its a lovely bow and shoots really well, I only took up archery in October so didnt want to go with something like Bowtec to start off with because of the price but once I'm a little more proficient with my bow I will get something custom made but my current one does a great job, I have no problems with long distances and I've even won a silver medal with it

Archeryworld are a great company, if you order online you will have the bow in 2 days.
