Polishing Fiber Pins

Just bought a cheap compound scope with a fiber pin, unfortunately the pin was over 2cm which is longer than is allowed under FITA rules so I had to cut it down, the problem then was even with a very sharp knife the end was not as clean as it could be and therefore did not Glow as nicely as it could, to be honest even as new it did not look great.

Solution was to file and polish the end of the pin with my wife's manicure set, there were emery boards in there with different grades of paper also a board with several different material surfaces designed for smoothing polishing nail surfaces it worked fantastically well on the fiber pin.

Seems like I'm forever changing or altering fiber optics in my outdoor rig.

Using a lighter, bring the optic up to the side of the flame......not in. Watch it REAL closly, and you'll see it gloss over. Done.

If the optic is too small, hold it there for a second, and it'll mushroom a bit on the end making it bigger.

This is the method I use, although I have put it into the flame by accident before........

Just remember, it's easier to beg forgiveness than it is to ask permission.

Are you shooting tomorrow? Or entertaining the family....
