as an ex squaddie, all i can say is that at the moment of the shot noise didn't come into it. it can be blanked out ie, all the mundane noises, shouts, talking, shells, radios etc. all you need is the shot and the only thing you need to hear is the stop firing.

with the arrows i can shoot but still hear if fast is called but can't honestly remember hearing anyone talking, or, like at our field, the young'uns shouting and messing about when they get bored.

Just read this thread for the first time and must confess, I'm probably one of those who cause problems for other's concentration. I practice mostly by my self (in my back yard or at the county range mid-week because I'm retired). I've gotten in the habbit of talking to myself as a way for me to concentrate. As a result I have a running dialogue going as I shoot. When I go to a tournament I find myself sometimes (when I'm really concentrating - lol) talking to myself after each shot, doing a sort of after action analysis.

Actually had one unpleasant individual next to me, turn and angrily tell me to "shut up". Said "Sorry 'bout that!" but must admit I chuckled to myself. He obviously had problems concentrating. (smiley face goes here)

Spiderz you are a very polite person who subcosciously feels that you should listen to some one talking. Learn to be rude and ignore them, over the years I have formed what I think of as bubble. Anything outside the bubble I can ignore, because it does not relate to me. If some one needs to talk to me they will come inside the bubble. when I am shooting the only thing I listen for is a shout of FAST.

This bubble is a very usfull tool and also used in The Wheel of Time. (I'm only on book seven and it is taking me ages to get through although it is brilliant).

What I do if I can't concentrate is to think of someone that has made me angry recently, and imagine I'm shooting them, helps with the shooting and the concentration in one go.
