Well i litterally took the plunge yesterday. Went for my first outing to the gym and went for a swim. not done seriour swimming training since i was 15 now im 23. I got home after swimmin 45 lengths in an hour and ive never felt more awake and ready to face the night. Usually get home from work (Teaching) and crash infront of the tv and struggle to stay awake while marking books and planning lessons.

Last night wow, was like drinking 10 expressos.

Had tonight off so going to swim again tomorrow, not venturing into the gym until saturday when i get my induction and a training program drawn up for me.

Oh Yeah Still No Cake

Having done archery I'd now never ever do any sort of gym work that involved my arms pulling me up when they're above my head. No climbing or anything of that sort either.

Well i have a bad Bow Arm Shoulder from an accident september 2005 where my shoulder dislpocated lifting a boat onto a roof rack.

Its never been the same again. After swimming the other night it felf a lot easier, and today it feels 60% better than it has done in over 18 months.

Going again tonight for another swim see how it goes.

Make sure you remember that your rest days are as important as your active days, and without them you won't do any good, and possibly cause yourself more problems.

Sounds like you've got the balance good so far.

Kae.

Ballance

Archery is all about consistency. So the amount of exercise you do outside of archery needs to be balanced.

It’s no good overdoing it at the gym the day before an important shoot. I think a light work out every non archery day is better than trying to do a lot in 1 session.

For me I try to exercise every day that I don’t shoot.

I tend to do mainly CV exercise swimming/rowing/running/cycling.

This balance helps me feel fit and composed for archery.

Good Call.

I think its important that in the run up to a competition, to actually do nothing for the two days prior to the shoot.

That way, your body gets a good rest and you're full of energy for the start of the shoot.
