Terry and Rosie

Hi every one, my daughter and i are two weeks into our archery course at the Assheton club in Manchester,we really enjoy the friendliness of the club and it's members, we were made very welcome.
They pointed us in the right direction for buying a bow for Rosie, (i havnt got one yet). Its a bit confusing the amount of stuff out there, which bow, what make any idea's welcome !!.
Well thats it for now, bye T&R

Hello and welcome aboard.
Join the party
I would wait untill at least the end of the course before buying any equipment. And then still not rush in untill you have spoken to as many archers and especially coaches as possible.
It may well save you a lot of expense and grief later

Regards
TT

Welcome to the fun.

Before buying anything at this early stage have a word with your club , they may have intermediate equipment they will rent to you for the first 4 months or so. Alternately there will most likly be someone in the club who will lend you a bow to begin with which could help you decide what you need for the future.

Just don't worry about a bow for a while , I'm sure that your club members will help you out when they think the time is right.

Most important thought - just enjoy it.

cheers

Hi There...... Welcome to AIUK....... As has been said do not buy any equipment until you are sure you know what you want. Beg, borrow, Etc, all the equipment you can & try as many bows as possible until you find the one that suits YOU. What is right for one person is not always right for anyone else........

Thanks to all

hey guys thanks to all for making us most welcome and your comments on buying bows, yep i fell for it did'nt i , i thought as a treat i would take Rosie and buy her, her own bow, hmmmm, what a mistake, without naming them, the trouble was only spotted when we went to the club, (maybe this will be a warning to future eager parents), in the shop itself we were put in the hands of a shop lad who picked up a bow and said to my daughter "can you pull that back" So Rosie did her best, and that was the draw weight sorted, the arrow length was determind by Rosie pulling a none fletched arrow and then releasing it to send it flying down into a target before being told not to let go, we settled for a nice SAMMICK with wood grain riser, now we were also informed "we could not use the range unless we were buying a "non kit bow", after various bits and
pieces the total was £170.
Reminds me of buying a car and finding out that the shocks are worn the bearings have gone and when started the doors fly off curtesy of Billy Smarts circus !!.
Our second outing was more fruitful, we went to Aardvark, where we were delt with by professional people who put everything right with Rosie's bow, even making her a bow string of the right thickness, we got limbs of the right strength for Rosie as she is only nine years old (bone compression). We also got arrows of the right length which were made while Rosie watched.
We cant thank them enough for their help and professionalism.
