Paying my respects

Greetings to established inmates and fellow-newbies. I joined a few days ago to take part in the Ironman eccentricity. I'll be wielding my bent stick in the wind and weather at balmy Pentref on the 29th. If anyone knows why, please let me know.

Because it allows you to strut with that little bit of extra confidence in the street, knowing that, while others may snuggle in their goose-feather quilts, in their centrally-heated dens of softness, you have been out, braving the elements in shirt and trousers (though not necessarily tailored), cocking a snook at winter and generally proving that archers have what it takes. You will feel tempted (though, from feelings of modesty, you will resist) to thrust your face close to those of passers-by, and shout "I am an Iron Man"; you will tell the keepers of your local shop "I have done it today!"; you will grab small children, sit them on your knee, and tell them how your mighty bow tamed all that Pentref could throw at you.
And then you will collapse from exposure and be carted away for your own safety.

*Chuckle* He's been in the madhouse for years, Milly. Before we moved here we lived in the right-hand house of a pair of semi-detached houses. For reasons I shouldn't have to explain to a Welsh-speaker like yourself, who knows the family, we dubbed it Ty Chwith

Non Welshies may care to note that although 'chwith' normally means 'left', it also carries the same connotation of 'cackhanded' or 'odd' that 'left-handed' does in English. Far from meaning 'left house' (which you'd think it ought), ty chwith means 'madhouse'

You did it for a darn good feast of homemade vegetable soup and the love of a good woman. Either that, or you had a suspicion that not to do so would involve the insertion of bent sticks in places where bent sticks really didn't ought to go...

Incidentally, if you update your profile to include Live Shoots, you should find yourself bedecked with a trio of dancing penguins. Someone will be along to explain why penguins soon, I'm sure. Maybe.

You couldn't have named it anything else.

Surely it's because we are all such good-humoured folk? It's a known fact that it is impossible to remain annoyed or aggravated whilst looking at a penguin!
