Hi all, from a newbie

Just a quick note to say hi. I can't believe i haven't found this site B4.

I've been shooting along with my 10 year old son since April, All seems to be going well and we're still enjoying it as the weather is deteriorating. So if I can still get out of bet for 8.30 on a Saturday morning at this time of year i must have the bug .

I've been using the club's equipment up to now but i should be getting my own soon.

My thoughts are:
Winstar 2 riser
Challenger limbs
Easton platinum arrows
Sight TBC
Clicker??? (Do I need one?)
Pressure button (Looks like that one could be a nightmare to set up)
Plus anything else the shop'll tell me i need.

Any thoughts on the above would be appreciated. Please note I don't want to spend silly money on the equipment, but it's got to be of a good sturdy quality as I'm ham fisted at the best of times!!!

Cheers in advance

Steve

Hello and welcome. With regards to kit, Dont worry about a clicker for now. Thats something to look at in a couple years. I would recommend a pressure button. If you grab hold of one of your clubs better archers for a tuning session they should be able to assist with your button. Alternatively search for button tuning on here and you should find plenty of posts which should explain all you need on button tuning. It can be as simple or scomplicated as you like.

Welcome - for that first bow it is essential IMHO that you go to the shop and be prepared to spend a couple of hours there (I think it was 3 hours for me and my son - try to go when it is not so busy). Get a recommendation from your club where to go, they may even be prepared to go with you. Try the risers - you may find that you do not like the one you are thinking about when you get it in your hand. All the best.

Welcome aboard.

As you have seen the recommendation will always be go an try, but be prepared to spend as long as it takes. Don't do this when you are in a hurry.

Thanks for all the advice Guy's & Girls.
I've been recommended Ten Ring Archery in Ramsgate. They were pretty good when i bought my sons bow from there. The only thing was, it was difficult to get the thoughts out of my son so we just went along with their first recommendation. Seems to have been good advice as he's reached second class already.

it'll be a different storey when kitting myself out. I can be an awkward bugger at times & like to know roughly what i need before writing out a blank cheque.

What are the options for the risers in the similar price bracket to the winstar 2? If i'm not careful i'll end up liking someting else and finding out it's twice the price!

What are the major features to look out for?
universal limb fitment?
Mounting points for future expansion of stabilisers etc?
Or do all bows in that price range have everything i'll need.

In short i don't want to have to replace the bow in a years time.
