Stolen Scout Equipment

I have received an email from Colin Tidmarsh, of Doncaster Scouts (colin@tidmarsh.org.uk), about the following theft:-

Scout Archery Equipment stolen

Have you seen or heard of anyone offering cheap archery equipment in your area? If so, please let me know

The following SCOUT Archery equipment was stolen from Barnby Dun on Friday 29th February 2008

4 children’s bows (54 inch, in green and dark blue – brand name: “Rolan”)
4 adult bows (66/68 inch in orange and blue, brand name: “Rolan”)
2 wooden teenage bows (58 inch – wooden handle – branded “Polaris”)
[The above bows were stored in 2 x 26inch black Stanley toolboxes]
1 green mesh curtain10m x 3mtr (to catch stray arrow shots)
60(ish) arrows (stored in a drainpipe tube – 6inch diameter about 3ft long, arrow brand name: “lightning”)

This equipment was being widely used by Doncaster’s Cubs, Scouts and Explorers

We would like it back
(the bows dismantle for carrying, so come in 3 parts)

Can you keep an eye out for this stuff please.

What's going on with this country.
Merlin broken into and now this.
I will copy down the items and keep my eye out on EBAY as thats the favourite place for them to try and get rid.
The next best will be car boot sales around the local area.

Did Dave also post this earlier in the week.

Yes what is the world coming to you would have thought the scouts would have been able to track it down by now

Seriously though all clubs need to be on their guard not only for archery equipment but also all the other gear like ride on mowers etc gangs roam the whole of the country looking for soft targets (sorry) containers or sheds in a field is an open invitation regardless of the locks, they have professional gear to cut it.

I have to say that one of the biggest advantages to our current outdoor shooting ground is the presence of the load of police officers on site. (we shot on the playing field behind teh Suffolk Police HQ ) We don't have any theft or vandelsm

Sadly this is a common occurance. Our club has been hit twice in the three years I have been a member, so now a club member takes the "beginners" equipment home and brings back for lessons. They still break in though and cause lots of damage, but at least there is nothing to steel.

I buy quite a few things on ebay and usually ask questions to determine the level of knowledge of the seller. If they are not archers I give it a wide berth.

I am however astounded that people would sell stolen things on ebay. I am no crime expert but are people really stupid enough to steel things and then try and offload on ebay. It seams like the dummest thing in the world to me. There is every likelihood that the person who has been stolen from, could easily be looking out for replacements on ebay. It would be a bit of a giveaway. Failing that, for archery equipment in particular a fellow club member may spot a friends stolen equipment. And I may be nieve but I would imagine it would be worth police and insurance companies periodically looking out there too. To make matters worse ebays database will contain full contact details for the thief which I would hope ebay would keep archives of for exactly this purpose.
