I know better than them?

Ok,

A (real) Scenario;

Archer goes to bow shop. Buys new bow and arrows.
Archer goes to club, and when asked about the bow he says "36# medium limbs and my arrows are 28" 1813 XX75's" ".
Club know-it-all turns around and says, whoa, wait a minute, those are the wrong arrows, they should be 2013's!.

However, when our friend the archer shoots his bow, the arrows fly perfectly, tune perfectly and he shoots well with them. He is however unhappy with the equipment and complains to the shop, because his friend told him the spine was wrong.

So, what assumptions did Mr know-it-all make that were wrong?

Kae.

1 - that the theoretical spine was 'right' and the results were wrong
2 - that the archer was holding 36# at full draw - at a guess, the archer had a draw of approx 26-26.5" so unless the bow had been wound up, would b e holding closer to 33/34# at the fingers.
3 - that his opinion mattered more than that of someone who (as far as he knew) had spent time with the archer getting this right.

T.

p.s. what do I win?

Every club has a "know it all".

Why do we call them that? What they really are, usually, is a "know nowt".

Part one his draw weight is probably in the 30-35 box, so move down to 1913's
Part two those charts are always a bit stiff, especially for ali's so move another box down to 1813
?

He simply assumed that the Easton chart is accurate!

Differences in string material count for a lot- as much as nearly a whole spine in one case Ive had myself of recent.
Limb speeds vary greatly too
And of course each archers own release, and string speed off of the tab makes a big difference also.

Gotta agree with the comment about the Easton guide not being accurate ( well not for everybody that is) God only knows what set-up and abiliy level those charts are based on!

The problem with any recurve chart is that there is no such thing as a standard recurve limb and string combo. I have a Gold seeker GS turbo( Don't you just love those early 90's model names) It's old and it uses a dacron string. It's a 66 inch 38lb @ 28 inches. There is no way that it is going to need the same spine arrows as a modern riser with foam core carbon limbs with a fast flight string with the same bow lenght and draw lenght and poundage. The modern bow is going to need a much stiffer spine because it is going to throw the arrows faster. No two ways about it. Until spine charts have at least a soft medium and hard limb option like compounds have for the cam option there will be errors. having said all that I picked the softest option from the download spine selector which was 1916's 29 inch arrow lenght and it was spot on.

I've generally found ali's more stiff and difficult to tune that the a/c's in the same boxes.
