how many turns make a pound?

I have just upgraded from acc arrows to aces. I was pulling 34 pounds with my old arrows and the arrow length is 27.5 inches not including the pile. I have bought 850 aces, but after trying to tune them by adjusting bow weight they are still a bit weak. They shoot very good groups at 20 yards ( four fletched shafts in the compound ten ring, two bare shafts in the ten at the right) but the bare shafts won't come further left. I would like to know how many turns of the limb bolts make a pound, as I can't feel much difference after one and a quarter turns (on each limb), but someone at my club said that amounts to five pounds. That much of a weight reduction has not affected where the bare shafts go, so I can't believe it is five pounds, especially as I can't feel much of a difference and my sight marks at 50 yards are roughly the same as before. The bow is a matrix 25 inch riser, with G3 limbs, the ones that make a 66" bow overall.

As with most things it depends on your riser/limb combination etc.
The only way to know would be to use scales to measure the before and after effects.

If you get no change when altering bow poundage, it could be your button "bottoming" out.

I'm not saying this is absolutely correct, but no one has said it's wrong yet, lol. You could try tuning like this:

http://www.archery-interchange.com/f...-one-them.html

Which would sort out that problem. A quick powder test of the last 1/3rd of the arrow would shot if that's the case also.

Kae.

There are no hard and fast rules about poundage as it is a percentage of the set up you have.

Kae...that's exactly what I was doing. But I don't know what you mean by "bottoming out". How can the button do anything wrong when it is set with a matchstick to be rock hard?

I'm using 34lb G3s on a Matrix (fully wound up to max. and really should get around to measuring the weight ) I shoot 27.5 inch 720 ACEs which are a bit weak and will probably go slightly stiffer when I get new ACEs; so at a guess I'd say the 850's would be too weak (iirc the Easton guide is 780 for 27.5@34lb, so I'd be tempted to go stiffer).

If you're coming down to Chorley tonight I should have bowscales with me.

As a very rough guide, and generalizing greatly, the total range of adjustment is usually about 10%.

You don't say the point weight but they're too weak. Sorry to say you need 780s, maybe 720s.

Having said that, looks like your tune is ok at 20 yards - depends on how critical it is though and whether you get similar results at 30/50 meters. Bareshaft position is only one small tuning indicator.

That person has no idea what they're talking about. Ignore them.

Overall you will get *roughly* 10% variation in weight from fully in to fully out positions. Turn and a half, at a *complete guess* might give you a pound or perhaps slightly less. I think the arrows might still be weak though.

I don't shoot well enough at 90 to even consider bareshaft at that distance
4/5 ring at 12 o'clock at 70m for me
