I charge somewher in the region of £250 for full weekend plus expenses. The amount varies as to who i am coaching and i would expect to be doing this at least once a month. For this you will get to wherever you wish to get with respect to your ability to listen and stick to a plan

Plus as the committment is needed on BOTH sides (coach as well as archer) I suggest you consider some form of "contract" ie WRITTEN agreement signed by you both that indicates the format of the coaching (expectations, frequency/length of coaching sessions, fees to be paid etc)- especially if money is to change hands. Just because a coach is a GNAS coach doesn't mean they will not "cut and run" even if the relationship has included payment- so cover your back. If a coach is not willing to do this, be very very careful......

OK, this is the archers perspective- but it protects the coach too. At the end of the day, in general the archer is (IMO) more likely to be damaged from a coaching relationship going bad than the coach. Oh, and consider discussing what insurance cover the coach has especially if money is to change hands and coaching is to be outside the GNAS club.

Now this is a very good question. My inital requrements are to make sure that I am not doing anything that will hamper my progress, eg my form probably needs commenting on. Longer term I would hope to develope a relationship with a coach, but this really depends on how well I progress initally. To my mind there is no point in developing a relationship with a coach if all I'm capable of is 1st class or Bowman.

so lets stick with the initial requiremnts first, I ned someone to develop on my basic trianing and self learning from the web and books.

I know a level one coach in Cambridge - he knows his stuff - he's left active archery now but if you could persuade him, he would actually help you a lot as he knows a lot about how to get to reasonable levels, pm me and I'll tell you who.

Otherwise don't discount your own coaching, I've had to do it and you can get well into the 1200s, without help, if you put the effort in. It's just harder that way - but you'd learn about the effort you wanted to put in and then learn where you wanted to go.

Go and talk to John Waters at Jolly Archers. He's been a coach for over 10 years. I can honestly say he hknows his stuff. He's ex Service champion and will sort out your form.

I will not discuss individual coaches in the open but John is a good enough coach to know when his coaching isn't good enough for someone .

It is my understanding that if your club does not have coaches, the county archery association is obliged to send one to your club. You may want to find out who is in charge of coaching for your county/region and get in touch with them to get more details.

I have e-mailed our County coaching org. asking about leaders courses and coaching for our club 3 weeks ago and have had absolutely no response whatsoever, not impressed, would have liked to have been told something, even if nothing was available.
