Question Good Books

Sorry if this is in an FAQ somewhere but....

Anyone recommend any good Recurve books? I have a copy of Precision Archery (a Christmas present, along with a fletching rig) but wondering what else to add to my reading list. Got told that there is an updated version of a popular classic coming out next month, but have forgotten the name.

Regards,

Sponge

That'll be Total Archery by Ki Sik Lee - the second edition is meant to be a bit less hard to get to grips with if you're not an 'advanced archer', although I've got the first edition and it's not too bad... If only I could apply some of the wisdom contained therein!

Another good read is Rick McKinney's The Simple Art of Winning. Bit dated in comparison to Total Archery, but, needless to say, most it still applies to post-'80s/'90s archery!

One I'm looking forward to is the english version of The Heretic Archer by Italian archery 'powerhouses' Michele & Vittorio Frangilli - which, I'm reliably informed, is out at the end of January. Michele needs no introduction as one of the finest archers on the scene, and his father, Vittorio, is a world-class coach (as well as an approachable 'fount of all archery knowledge' on the Saggitarius Black Board). If Vittorio's clear and in-depth explanations on the Saggi BB are anything to go by, it's going to be a must-have book for any archery library!

A good book for archers (the best) is Target archery by Elmer. This was first published in the 1950s but athe basic principles are still very sound. You may have to advertise or go to a good second hand shop for a copy but it is definitely worth having.

Not repeating anything that's gone before...
Understanding Winning Archery - Al Henderson
The inner game of tennis/golf - Timothy Gallwey
With Winning in Mind - Lanny Basham

I guess you can see where the emphasis of these books lies... :icon_smil

Oh yeah, if we're mentioning "to be published" books, then:
The Heretic Archer - Vittorio & Michele Frangilli

I'm a bit worried by this one; I note from the pre-publication blurb that one chapter is entitled ' How the World Champion was Born.' I had just sort of assumed that they used the time-honoured method like the rest of us; but then there always seemed to be something 'different' about Michele, something 'other worldly' perhaps. What are we going to find out?

Probably good explanations - I'm sure you'll get one of your heads round it.

Different? If so, it runs in the family. Look at his sister... Cadet World Champion in 2004...
she was shooting 550+ Fita 18s at age 13/14, currently shooting high 570s...
Maybe Vittorio *is* putting them together in a workshop somewhere
