Extend clicker plate or cut arrows... help!

Hi all, i hope this is in the right section!

I've just switched over to my LOVELY new helix and tuned it in some, its shooting like a dream but i have noticed one little snag concerning my arrow length.

With my Winstar II, the arrows came through the clicker in the middle of the plate. With the Helix, it must be because of how deep set the throat of the grip is my arrows are coming through with the clicker on the edge of the longest plate.

I've got a perfect tune with my arrows at thier current length and im loathe to go alerting the length which would effect the spine etc so im just after a little advice before i do anything.

It'd be easy enough to make one, but id rather get a proper one. Can you buy extension plates in longer lengths? it only needs to be about .5" longer than the one i have.

And will cutting my arrows back by .5" make a small difference in spine i could tune out with the button? or is it too gross a difference and id have to go through the whole setup again?

Thanks!

Mr. V

i have seen that you shoot redlines, and guess you will what to up grade to ace's at some time, so i would leave it as it is for now.
hoytes usually come with three plates, are you using the longest one now?
also cavilier do a clicker that attaches to you sight bar, might work.

Cut the arrows, accept a weight saving, the spine will not change much.

the arrow cutting thing won't effect your tune to any noticeable degree, might mess your head up more than your tune, people worry far to much about tuning, I had to cut 5/8th off my arrows when I swapped from Ex-feel to finally the Nexus via the Matrix, also a warning that if you extend your arrow plate and not the clicker fixing point the clicker angle will be too severe, this can, if your button is on the week side and the clicker tension strong lead to the arrow being pushed down into the rest and also actually compressing the plunger, so when the clicker clicks the arrow tends to lift off the rest and the arrows being projected off from the button before you even let go of the string.

My clicker isnt under much tension, its just resting on the arrow it doesnt compress it at all.

Good advice all as always, if taking a short amount off the arrows wont effect the tuning too much i think i'll just do that so i can bring the clicker back in a little.

Regarding switching to Aces i was thinking of sticking with Redlines for a while longer, at least until the end of the year because im very pleased with them and i can hit the 70m no trouble with my current set up. I've shot @ 80 and they reach ok, not tried 90 but im primarily shooting field so the long distances arent really an issue.

I've been to a fair few field shoots in the last year, and not one target event

Have you considered a magnetic clicker?

They dont require a plate to click against and so can be positioned much further infront of the riser to accomodate longer arrows

Get your self a Cavalier magnetic extention clicker and stop worrying about your tune and your head tune.

Cavalier/AAE makes a new adjustable magnetic clicker that mounts under the sight bracket..... it gives about 1 1/2" of adjustment for arrow length (you can make a longer replacement wire if you need it). Besides the "audible" click this clicker can hit against the strike-plate and give you the "feel" of the clicker in your hand. I use it and, as you can tell, I think it is great. - John

Heck, build a custom clicker plate! I go to the hardware store and get a piece of aluminum bar stock the right thickness and width and make one. Use a dremmel and drill to shape it up, and a buffing wheel on the dremmel to shine it up. The one on my daughters X-Factor looks sweet! Kinda like chrome mags on a car

Extending a clicker always is worthwhile.

For youngsters, it is interesting to start them with longer (and weaker) arrows that can later be cut down as their limb pressure is increased. Especially if one believes in starting archers early on the clicker.

Extender plates are needed both at the bottom and at the top. That is because the clicker must be kept relatively vertical to avoid length variations due to the angle.

Follow Sling-it's recommandations, it is easier and cheaper to make a set of clicker extension plates than purchasing a new set of arrows

I have already met too many people who cut their arrows to a certain size and then find they are too short... An arrow never is too long, but too short, YE$$$$!!!
