When I'm shooting well 1-2 seconds, any longer than that it means either something is wrong preparing the shot or I'm thinking too much about some aspect of the shot, in either case the shot is lost after that time!
Recurve by the way.

Is that one of those "random time" releases I've read about (thought they were mostly clockwork or hydraulic...)?

Recurve (with a clicker!) on average 2-3 seconds from anchor. Overall shot - 10 secs (fast), 15 secs (slow).

Having said that, the time from anchor to shot can vary depending on how confident I am, and how settled the sight is on the gold. When I'm on top form, the time to the click doesn't matter, I can expand for some considerable time and still make a good, strong, confident shot - it's all about extending your comfort zone. The key is to be prepared to make the shot when the clicker drops, and as soon as you start to struggle or think, it's time to come down.

would like it to be 2-3 secs but in reality probably about 5-6 secs. anything after that will guarantee a weak shot.
