GNAS coaching weekends

anyone ever been on one of the GNAS 'all abilities' coaching weekends at lilleshall (or anyone involved in running them even) ?

what do they entail ?

are they useful ?

what level of coaches do they use ?

thats the one were thinking about if there are any places left - zoe spoke to them on the phone today and they didnt mention being full up but well see

that and as you probably know the state of coaching in cambs leaves a little to be desired right now (unless whoever coaches paul is available to help numpties out too ! ) - i did have some coaching being lined up but unforeseen medical issues have put paid to that for the time being

The course programme involves presenting to the students the most up to date information currently available. On the weekend courses Friday evening is course introduction, Saturday, video of students current shooting form from various angles and a group analysis of everyone's form. Rest of the day spent one to one with the student suggesting improvements, working mainly on posture. Emphasis is on showing the difference between students form and current "elite" form. Evening is taken up with various lectures. Sunday working on equipment stabilisation and tuning and more form training with other lectures on various subjects as and when time allows. Help with personal training programmes if required. Weekend courses very busy due to time constraints. Week courses allow time for more subjects to be incorporated.

Are they useful ? Feedback from past students is very positive with many achieving good results and advancement withing the sport and some have gone on to represent their country. But the end result depends of course on what the student is prepared to put in afterwards. Follow up continous coaching is offered after the course to any student if required.

The Performance team are Senior Coaches and County Coaches. Five staff on the weekend and six on the week courses.

... so, Andy, was it the prospect of a weekend away that decided you? ... because we have our very own weekend in Wetherby that I can thoroughly endorse. I have been on both the Lillieshall weekends, which were good but were so pressured that there was almost nothing about the mental side of shooting, and on the Wetherby weekend course. Of the two I have to say that I preferred the Wetherby course. Purely preference. The mental side of shooting was well dealt with in addition to the technical side and this puts Wetherby in the lead for me. And it's for LOCAL PEOPLE!
However, it was great to be able to shoot 90m indoors in the Wenlock Hall. I believe that this will no longer be possible in the near future as the National Sports Center is putting offices at the end of the hall. It was one of the few facilities of this sort in Europe.
