| Reading through some of the threads from the past few weeks, it would seem that "being out of date" is a common feature in the complaints about coaches. Hypertigger has mentioned it in this thread and SVL has pointed out how useful this forum has been in keeping up to date. I agree. GNAS want to promote distance learning;it says so in their County Coach introductory pack. I am all in favour of that. This forum is a very good example of how well it can work. I have learnt a huge amount since I joined, others have too. Yet, when I submit my worksheets to show how much or how little I have done to keep myself up to date;all the forum- based learning counts for nought! I have read a book or two, which can be taken into account. From what I have learnt here, I could fill a book. I have passed on my thoughts to the appropriate people, but I'm not too confident about an outcome. I think I'll go and eat worms. |

| i think it should stressed, that coaching is like any profession, you have to keep on learning and adapting, new techniques, more knowledge etc etc (i've just been looking at the list of things that i need to do to become a chartered engineer - and ohhhhhhhhhh my goodness i'm scared, and then you have to carry on learning!!)

| Phillc, I can see why it appears that coaching is 90% watching and the rest is offering advice on what to do. I think that there is the iceberg situation involved in coaching too. What is visible, is only 10% of the total. There is 90% going on unseen.Much of that 90% is made up of knowing what to look for and how to get the messages across. |
