I felt sorry for the coach that had been told to do all of it as a dogs dinner the looks at the camera of (is this bad enough for you ) but found that it generated a lot of disscusion at the gwas coaching conference this year.

The external assessor is partly working on behalf of GNAS, but is not being paid. The assessor will get expenses. The work is being done for and on behalf of the course candidates.

There has been some discussion as to whether Coaches should have their own uniform (which I think is a good idea). So in my opinion, if the assessor is dressed appropriately and professionally, either in GNAS approved colours or registered colours or the Coaching uniform, then due respect is being paid to the candidate.

Has the fact that the candidate is not in GNAS colours not crossed your mind? The candidate is taking part in an official GNAS activity, and is facing the public. Should we not therefore penalise the candidate for turning up dressed incorrectly for the job in hand? Can you have one rule for one end of the Coaching fraternity and not the other?

The DVD is a teaching tool. If nothing else it shows you how to do (or not do) something, but it *will* open up discussion.

iain, sorry that will be a differance of oppinion regarding the assessor. but i did say in the first post that as far as i was concerned the examination wouldn't have gone ahead, as the candidate was inappropriatly dressed.

As a teaching tool , it would work if at the end the assessor stated the reasons that the candidate had failed, but as the candidate passed the exam then the 4 / major failures, plus others were obviouly missed by the assessor

Ok did the girl in the long cardy say on numerous occassions that the bow was too heavy, you can plainly see she was struggling. and he made her draw it bac 3 more times

OK Pete agree to differ it is then.

And I wasn't paying attention. I apologise.

The DVD is a tool, it is a discussion opener (How many times did you say "You didn't want to do it like that..."?)

It is a tool to be used by people being trained to do the assessments. So what you see is what might happen in an assessment.

It is for you to sit there with your marking sheet and see if you would pass the candidate or decide the candidate is "not yet competent". Different assesors would go about the marking in different ways. Ideally, we should all come out with the same result...

I would not personally hold the DVD up as a model of best practice.... and I don't think it was meant to be that way.

It is a set marking sheet. But you need to get trainee assessors together and run through the exercise to see just how difficult it can be....

That usually generates a lot of discussion.
