The reason why i have changed from recurve to compound is because of a medial problem with my bow shoulder. I cant stand mych compression in my bow shoulder.

I have not been able to shoot since july due to alot of pain and a doctors order to do no upper body work.

I am now enjoying shooting again and am completely pain free even though the problem in my shoulder is not yet fixed.

The 12lb at full draw is fine i have not shot in a while and just need something to help build the right muscles up.

My longrod is a beiter, nice and light, i tried an Allegience with doinker Stabs and it felt too heavy compared to mine. I want a light setup.

Wouldn't that lead to you punching the release though? If you know you're only going to be paused for a moment you'll anticipate it.

Suppose it is down to personal prefferece but i dont like the idea of circling or figure 8s.

I was trying out an evolution release aid on thursday and dont see how this would have worked. I was having to concentrate for 3 or 4 seconds on keeping the sight pin in the gold as i applied back tension and wait for it to go off.

I was impressed with the back tension release but had a couple of wild shots and think the security of a trigger would be more beneficial ATM.

But even so its just trying to keep steady on the gold!

How unsteady are you?
Can the sight stay within the gold, or ten ring, on a Portsmouth?
I too shoot a light set up. How steadily I aim is down to total bow weight; up to a point. I can add stabs and get more wobbles as the weight is more than I can control. But there is also the way in which the draw weight is held once let off has been reached.
Try holding the bow at arm's length without drawing it, and aim at the gold. How steady is that?
Draw etc and hold on the gold as normal. How does that compare?
Draw etc and hold on the gold while pulling a little more against the stops and working the bow arm a little more to compensate. How does that compare?
You may find that a particular level of pulling against the stops helps more than the others.

I can stay within the gold its trying to keep it centre of the gold to grab those X's.

At the beginning of a shoot im fine its just towards the last 2 doz it takes a lot more concentration to keep it centre and this means holding at full draw for longer which tires me quicker every shot.

Do you think this is a fitness thing; or concentration thing, or both?

Concentration wise Im fine I had no problems with my recurve until my shoulder was causing too much pain at full draw.

Fitness was never a problem with recurve as well but ive only been shooting a compound a coulple of weeks and am still getting used to the extra weight of a compound. Its definately fatugue cos im fine at the start of a session.

Sometimes the extra weight of the compound along with the lighter holding weight causes the archer to wobble more than they expect. Perhaps a better balance between physical bow weight and holding weight would help. Do you find as you get tired, you feel you want to put the bow down as it starts to feel almost too heavy?
Experiment with drawing a little harder into the stops.
