No it never feels too heavy but between shots i am looking forward to resting the bow on the longrod to take the weight off my arm.

Think i just need to shoot more. Summer will be heer soon shooting 3 times a week! yay

How heavy is the average compound out of interest? I'm tempted to look into getting some dumbell type weights just for this situation. I'm guessing a fully loaded one can't be more than about 3kg.

As for drawing hard into the stops, it definately makes the bow feel lighter in the hand, as I think this is what I was doing during the portsmouth, which could explain why I was more stable.

Edit: Its good to hear you're shooting again thought Neo. Hope the shoulder fixes itself properly.

different long rod combinations and balance affect how still the bow sits (and many compound shooters including some in this thread think they have to hold the bow much stiller than necessary, I dont care about the dot moving around the gold and I shoot 580+ fita 1 and 590+ portsmouth this year in comp).
different balances will elicit a movement you are comfortable with.
The wobble you are talking about and tension or tiredness in the front arm is due to the wrong draw length, nock loop length and therefore poor allignement or not comng to a solid point on the stops. This doesnt mean leaning excessiveley on the stops but jut brushing them leads to poor stability, this can be especially a problem for novices using hard stops on the riser which require draw length to be set exactly

ASW, do you advocate a push/pull method with a compound or a pull (or even push) only technique?

I find that as you say, I'm far more stable if I'm hard on the stops (not been shooting it long but there is a noticable difference) which generally entails both pushing and pulling.

rather than a push/pull it is a dynamic balance set up by alignment therefore it can not be done by either a push or a pull BUT as i say it is a balance not a muscle straining heave.I hold around the 36lbs mark on 59lbs bow and 60% let off

If its a 60% let off don't you only hold 40% weight (23lbs) rather than 60%, or does it vary dependant on manufacturer? I'm currently only holding around 18lbs at full draw (65% let off on a 50lb bow) although I might wind up the limbs towards then end of the month now that I've built up a little more strength.

Yea thats what i thought a let off was. if youve got a 60% let off you would minus 60% off the peak draw weight..

have held up to 46lbs on 60% let off but that was silly.

I expand into the back in to the back wall for the extra poundage. Drop into the valley and you get 24 lbs expand against the back wall and the poundage goes up again.
