Caffeine

Caffeine, good or bad? Normally, ie at work or over the weekend, coffee (and I like it strong, although I rarely have more than 3 cups a day) doesn't bother me (contrary to what you would expect for a migraine sufferer). However at a couple of shoots over the last few months I have had a coffee during the day and it has unsettled me for a while.

What has other people's experience been?

What is the theory?

What do coaches advise?

I would say bad, over stimulation would cause problems settling in.

I definitely have to watch my caffeine intake when I'm shooting. If I drink too much too fast, I'm shaking on the line.

Caffeine has its uses but I'd avoid it during competition. As has been said the extra alertness can make you a bit jittery. Colas and fizzy drinks are often loaded with it too, not to mention rubbish like Red Bull and other energy drinks.

For a comprehensive review most of which is sensible try:
Caffeine: Psychological Effects, Use & Abuse
The WADA also have something to say about caffeine
World Anti-Doping Agency
If you look at the last document on the first page, the Powerpoint presentation from Dr Osama Ghoneim
