actually regarding the white carbs thing, as most people don't eat a single ingredient, you can have white pasta with a tomato-based meat sauce and it lowers the GI of the pasta.

and while the science of how a body works to process fat, calories, carbs, etc, not all bodies are the same or process these things the same, so making a blanket assumption does always work. i have several endocrine problems, so i know i don't process food like the majority of people. i've had to learn by experience through competing with migraines, hypoglycaemia and nausea to figure out how and when i need to eat, especially in competition, but everyday, as well.

i think a balanced diet is pretty obvious - veg, fruit, lean meats, complex carbs, etc. it's not rocket science. i think it's a matter of knowing how your own body works, speaking to a dietitian and/or your GP and your coach to come with something that is healthy for you.

Well said Miss Clicki..

I run my calories very tight and when i don't i gain weight. I'm ocd so i can tell you down to the gram. And it is fat weight... my frame these days is pretty lean - you can actually see the padding accumulate if i let it. I put on muscle weight just breathing...lol genetics is good for something.

If I don't eat more on competition days, i lose weight. I find simple carbs make me shaky. Breakfast cereal makes me hungry... and i can't ignore breakfast cereal hunger.. it's really distracting! But whole grain toast is fine for me.

I need to maintain fairly high protein intake all round or i have no energy. I need to eat red meat on a regular basis or i bruise really easy. If i want to run i have to eat more...If i spend extra hours at training, i have to eat more.

In biochemistry they teach you that there is no such thing as a 'fast' metabolism. Energy in vs energy out is a simple enough equation. But I've eaten with a certain GBR lass who consumes more in one sitting than i do in a week and she's mighty trim for it.... no one solution works for everyone.

When im at a competition and see such things as cake, pie, chocolate and other nutricious snacks, i find it very hard to walk away without my hands full and chomping on something
But if they are selling them, i will have a bacon buttie which has now turned into tradition with me and other people at my club.
Although this year i may try and stay away from the food ( or tape my mouth up ) as that sort of food makes me shoot quite badly.
I think it would be wise to invest in some slow energy release foods, not too sure what though.

Keep a food diary. what did you eat on that day and how did you perform whatever tasks you had?

play around with what foods work and don't... we've been putting the girls on elimination diets and finding that they're all lactose intolerant. in the process, you tend to discover what foods make an impact on your day.

I always eat whatever i am craving too. listening to your own body never hurts.

Thumbs up Cake or Biscuits

But Jaffa Cakes aren't Biscuits,

Biscuits go soggy when they get old (Jaffa Cakes go hard, I think the clues in the name ).

I'd like to thank the chef at Whitemark who makes the magical Coffee Cake which can help you shoot better, I hope its there again this year
