maybe OK?
On a personal note none of our bows shoot at 300fps, more like 250fps max. Also with a compound bow there is some acceleration.

As a cost effective alternative I think the Casio will be excellent for most archery type applications where you want to look at little Joe's form in the local sports hall. I don't think many clubs or regions could afford the £30K required for state of the art high speed balistics analysis cameras and software or even the £1k or more per day rental.

At max speed I think we could get about 12 frames across the arrow rest between release and the fletch clearing.

Archer High Speed Video » High Speed Camera Systems - NAC is an short but nice little video.

I would guess it is a top quality pro high speed camera. No you won't get similar results but depends what you want to achieve.

The leading UK supplier of digital high speed camera's rents one out daily for £900 + £90 for a tripod + £400 for the technician + £150 delivery (+55p per mile outside the M25) + VAT and I think that is for a camera that records under 5 seconds. I think I can live with a little reduction in quality

When gnas release thier coaching DVD you will be able to see images shot at approx 2000fps, some impressive shots of arrow flight from release and string movement even after limb tips have stopped moving,
afraid do not know when it will be released!
as for cost of equipment used, when quizzed, the cameraman had no idea!

Tim, will it be a general release or in-house only?

This camera is the only one we have seen that is less than the cost of a small car and captures over 600fps.

I was looking at the demo's with Trevor and it has a feature that you can switch on so it is constantly recording and when you press the shutter button it saves it. So if you miss the exact moment you still get some good video. Trevor just likes gadgets and I think he has one on pre-order from the States already

As far as I an aware the DVD will be for general sale, but I am sure that not all the filming has been completed as yet, let alone the editing and voice over work.
The English Institute of Sport have been using a camera of 500FPS with some of the archers and quite honestly the value of the B&W results are limited, although when there is none, somthing is better than nothing-if you see what I mean!
EIS went out with the squad to australia when at the AIS they picked up some info, and they have now got delayed immeadiate playback via laptop for analysis of shot( in Oz they have 4 cameras videoing and playback on split screen) using standard "high street" video cameras and which is in use with GB squads, this is very useful.
From what i have seen of the 500fps results, the arrow flight still appears jerky thoughout the shot, yes you can see clearance etc. but in comparison to what can be seen with the really high speed stuff its amateur, for instance a senior GB archers arrows have good clearance, the top fletch rotates to 3 o'clock by the time that the arrow nock has reached 6" before the end of his long rod, his string appears to have rotational movement after limb tips have ceased movement indicating stretch ,all crystal clear!!!
Lighting is a big issue with this high speed stuff, to get the best out of the camera, the lighting of the subject is critical so the spending will not stop on the camera!
In my humble opinion GNAS/PU/ EIS could poss. look into purchase of the setup required and poss. offer coaching coarses c/w high speed recording, might be costly but how many takers?
Its somthing I have long thought about , but its out of my finacial league to get worthwhile results from the purchasing side, but the hire of the specalist equipment with lighting is somthing that a club might be able to do?
I personally think that the GNAS DVD will be very informative and the HS Video will be stunning quality.

Thanks Tim I will keep a look out for the video.

I understand that the new facilities at Edinburgh will have high speed cameras.

We are interested in arow clearance and release aid consistancy. Trevor has a set of high power daylight lamps which they use in the business so that might work.

We have a DVD HD Camcorder with high speed but it is aweful compared to pro quality. You can make out what is happening but not with any clarity.

Rental is very expensive, we looked at a company and with all the delivery charges, insurance etc it would work out at over £1,000 for 1 day
