Shooting form video

Yesterday I made a video about my shooting form and managed to broadcast it on Youtube. Please, if you have some time, feel free to give advices. For me it is a good way to learn as my club doesn't have a coach...

The first thing I would consider is your personal safety, your 'string walking' in (imho ) is potentially dangerous, as to position the nock directly in front of your eye like that increases the likelihood of eye damage if something goes wrong with the shot (equipment failure etc.)

All the best and keep up the good work...but please be safe

John

Yeah I was told about that, but every stringwalker shoots like this at short distances (18m on the video) and I never heard about eye damages... I don't pull further than my anchor point.

You have lots of unnecessary body movement during the setup of your bowhand which could be tiring over a full day's shooting. You also have a distinct "pull up" on the bow just before release - is this because you have trouble settling on the aiming point?

Line and power look good.

That's the smaller problem.

Yes, and that's a very big problem. What should I do with it?

Is there a reason that your bow hand rises about 3 inches just before you release the shot?
Course there is, every archery has a good reason for everything they do.
Have you watched the video yourself?

Also, your drawing arm looks very crooked in your predraw. How about a nice draw line from arrow tip, through to drawing elbow in the predraw?

The reason is, I start to aim from the bottom and go up to the gold. The problem is, I release under it and push it up, and can't stop the pile on the middle of the gold.
Of course, I watched the videos, I made the whole stuff of myself.

On the hungarian archery forum, somebody said that my draw elbow goes down after release, is that a problem?

Your whole body seems to be jerking at the shot. You need to get mentally settled.

This is, as you say, the biggest problem. Your elbow is fine, and the group is good, but could be improved if you didn't "jerk" the arrow into the gold. You need to work on settling at your aiming point (be that in the gold or wherever) - perhaps shooting at very large close target, and slowly reducing the size/increasing the distance until you're comfortable with settling in the gold on the small face?

Yesterday I tried to pull directly to the yellow. First I shot on a blank boss, and the target was my previous arrow. That wasn't a big problem, I could shoot average groups from 18m, than I put up a picture of a huge apple, it was fun, I still could shoot 5 from 6 arrows into it, but when I put up the 40cm indoor face, the whole thing collapsed. I think I have some kind of target panic. If I concentrate on not to release on the gold, I can't find my anchor point, can't find shoulder position, can't find anything. If I concentrate on technique, I loose control on aiming.

I phoned my stringwalker friends, and was told to do the exercises that Murray has written about. Big target, short distance to gain some confidence and get used to it, and slowly reduce the sizes... I have 3 months to do that and refine my aiming before the first field event in Hungary.

Yorker! I don't understand why my technique is illegal and never heard about anybody disqualified because of that kind of pull. The arrow is almost horizontal...
Have you ever seen how some bowhunters pull their 70# bows? That's dangerous!!!
