What sort of grains?

When we state the weight of a pile/arrow in grains... are they Troy grains (480 to the ounce) or Avoirdupois (437.5 to the ounce)?

Anyone know? Please?

Troy units are generally for precious metals so I would assume its the avoidupois that you would use for arrows/piles.

All I know is that there is 1 grain to 0.06g.

Don't know if that helps.

Troy grains are the same as Avoirdupois grains. It's the pounds that are measured differently. 5,760 grains in a Troy pound and 7,000 grains in a Avoirdupois pound.

Ahh the joys of procrastination and t'internet

Apart from the fact that the Troy pound was abolished in 1878 in favour of the Avoirdupois pound, so hardly relevant in 2008.

Did you really mean "procrastination" or "displacement activity", (see Julian Huxley's famous 1914 tome "The courtship habits of the Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus); with an addition to the theory of sexual selection"?)
