Club rituals

As the last end of the night we have a single arrow, closest to the middle takes it, shoot off (no prize except bragging rights).

I've seen a similar thing mentioned using the archer at the bottom of the Worcester face (in the photos thread).

What rituals do you have at your club?

1. Get to hall/field
2. Set up
3. Shoot a round
4. Tidy up and go home (sometimes via the pub)

Occasionally we may have a game of archery cricket (2 teams, one batting and one bowling, batters are out if they miss or score higher than a 6, bowlers have to score 1-10 in ascending order both shooting 3 arrows at a time so everyone gets a go and done at 40/50yds so juniors can join in - change teams when you get all 10 out, highest score at the end wins).

Don't know much about it myself, but when we shoot with Birmingham Uni., before the shoot they gather round in a circle around their captain who wears a colourful headdress, worship a Toucan (i kid you not), curse their opponents (all in good jest), and finally sacrifice a Marsbar using an ACE..

should add; the marsbar goes to the archer of the opposite gender to the Birmingham team captain, who scores the closest to 222 in the round.

....and was a novelty the first time we saw it but by the third quite frankly we'd thought it was pretty stupid.

We have a friendly rivalry with Bath and Exeter Uni's and subsequently there is a lot of minibus sabotge/mascote-napping.

We also used to play either basketball or frizbee after practice on a Saturday.

We also colour our hair (green or red) for the indoor/outdoor uni champs.

The ritual for a lot of our club members seems to be "turn up when everything is set up go home before put away time" Like a lot of clubs it's the same people doing everything as normal

Out traditional club madness is a FITA round starting at Dawn on the closest Saturday to the longest day of the year (21 June) - which means assembly at around 4:00 am. Big cooked breakfast after the 70m ends.

At the end of our indoor league rounds we shoot six arrows aiming to score the highest points followed by six arrows aiming for the lowest possible score. A miss in the lowest end counts as a 10, then subtract one from the other and you have a winner!

We (Greenwood Osterley) have an ongoing thing with both Laleham and Spelthorne Archers that no one is allowed to crack open the beer they've brought to any shoot until they've hit the gold.
