nock tuning (again)

setting up my second new set of arrows in a month

having assembled arrows minus fletching went out at 20 yards to do some nock tuning prior to fletching and 'park' tuning tomorrow - only needed to turn nocks on a couple that were way out from the group but would i be OK in assuming the group in the photo was a reasonable result to determine 'correct' nock rotation given im currently only a borderline 1st class archer ?

(the group - and i shot all 11 arrows 4 times with similar results each time - is roughly gold sized on a 60cm face - bearing in mind that these arrows are otherwise untuned and unmatched to the bow)

(if nothing else i guess my spine choice is looking OK - i expected the new arrows to be slightly lighter and slightly weaker than my old ones and the high left position of the group would seem to confirm this ? )

Personally, if my bow was being tuned and produced a group like that at 20 yds, I would be happy to leave it like it is. The next time I would come back to it, would be when I've improved further with my shooting to justify checking it to finer tune.....

Paul... ...

P.S. A group like that, leave the fletchings off and save money...

Maybe you hadn't noticed? The group is not high left but high right. I'm sure someone will correct me, but doesn't this indicate a slightly weak spine, which of course can be mucked about with by reducing the weight of the pile or fiddling with your button, or reducing your poundage etc ...

Re spine: The position of the arrows in the target does not indicate anything unless it's compared to a fletched arrow, I cannot see any fletched arrows.

With regards to your bareshafts is the group typical to your normal groups, if not then you can appreciate how much work your fletchings are doing to keep you on the straight and narrow. Also remember it's easy to move a bareshaft at that distance many inches either way just with a poor release etc.

heehee - my bad - of course theyre right not left (serves me right for not proofreading that post) but the rest of my comment (weaker and lighter holds) - i just didnt type the right word

whitehart - youre dead right of course - but bearing in mind i was aiming at the gold with a bow setup for my old arrows the new bareshafts acted as i expected (higher and weaker - bareshafts from the old arrows would have been (hopefully) in the middle) - as for group size im a 535-540 portsmouth archer so a gold sized group of 11 arrows is about as good as i could expect from fletched or bareshaft i guess

also - i was only looking at grouping there as a rough indicator of dynamic spine matching in the new arrows and nothing else - ive since 'park' tuned the arrows fletched vs bareshaft and without any adjustment to anything they were grouping together so im happy with spine match to bow weight too (if nothing else gives me some confidence in my understanding of (cartel) spining - going from 29" 740 x-perts to 28" 820 x-perts i forecast slightly weaker overall (same pile weight))

Although the arrows are slightly of centre, by the time you actually adjust the sight you will very close to what you were aiming for. Once again the group is quite impressive if the normal scores you mention are your average. The group, be it fletched / unfletched would be quite rewarding. Better the devil you know! Stick with them and see what happens.....
