Stripping Fletchings?

Hi Quick question - could get answer at club tomorrow but hoping to act tonight...

If I want to strip some fletchings (ep16) from ACC arrows to re-fletch them with my newly acquired fletching jig, is it ok to just use a sharp/stanley knife and get most off then scrape away the glue that's left? Or will that damage the shaft? Have done a quick search and not found the answer. I've tried it on one arrow that was damaged anyway and it looks as though it would be ok.

Thanks - your resident noob...

J

I use a sharp knife. Once you get the flat of the cutting edge running along the shaft and not into it, it works fine.

Just be extra carefull not to shave some of the carbon from the arrow as well especially if the vanes are superglued on rather than normal fletching glue like NPV etc.

And take your time.

Strip with a Stanley knife tonight, but order yourself a ZipStrip for the future. It is a safe and efficient tool. The right one for the job.

Yup, not gonna be in any hurry after spending a small fortune for me on those arrows recently hehe - in fact I only need to strip 2 of them before tomorrow as I have 4 unfletched so will do those first and redo 2. If I need to use a spare arrow in tournament, I'm assuming it's ok to use differently fletched arrows as long as they're clearly identifiable [decals] ?

Can you tell I'm not taking this tournament tomorrow terribly seriously?

Hehe, J

I know it won't help you tonight and I hate to sound like AIUK is a stuck record but Zip Strip rules.

Expensive? Sure.
Effective? Oh yes!
Worth it for not damaging expensive carbons? Without question.

Thank you all - for fast and helpful responses - I will indeed get a Zip-Strip-Thingy then, and may even decide not to strip with a knife tonight after all, considering the weight of your response

[cough: maybe I will shoot tomorrow's tournament with my original aluminiums hehe]
