Good point Tel.

Lots of free coaching - I like the idea and what better place than Devon in summer!

You will probably find that the XX75s will still be useable even when you raise poundage a bit. The Easton chart goes in 5lb incriments and often spine heavy anyway.

As for shooting: I'd recommend you stick to the shorter ranges for a bit, at least until you know your arrows are going to hit at a longer range (as patronising at this sounds).

And limb wise, I agree that arrows often make the biggest difference but I would wait until you have risen in poundage first so they aren't redundant too fast. If you have weight adjustment on your riser that is excellent, you can get the poundage up without newer limbs, get new limbs, move the weight adjust down and gently work up further.

Thanks Yorker,

your thoughts are similar to my own and I'm looking forward to an interesting time ahead.

I am facinated by the technical side of tuning the equipment correctly, which may not be the ideal choice of some, but is so very important to succeed.

See you on the range !!!

Malcolm

Absolutely no point in getting arrows in the leagues of ACE/X10/Nano/even Navs I'd say. IMO Platinum Pluses are perfect beginner arrows, have great components (G-nock, instead of some plastic Glue on one) and very durable. Reason why you don't want to get good arrows are: Your draw length is bound to change as you develop your form, your bow weight will change and You'll bound to lose a few arrows/break a few there and there so instead of lamenting after each ACE you lose, your wallet won't feel so empty if you lose a XX75. Point to note, I really don't think you should shoot 100 yards for a time to come as your focus may be directed from developing the right form to that of shooting for scores (Good scores will come with good form naturally). What I mean by focusing purely on shooting score is trying to go up poundage too quickly in order to reach the distance whilst in the process causing yourself injury and hindering archery development.

Thanks Jay.g,

my thoughts exactly and I did say this earlier - it''s the xx75''s for me for a while and I do like the G-nock system, which I believe is similar to the Kruglenock and others......... have you tried these or have any comments on the different nock choices good or bad?.(Others please chip in)

My intention is to ensure very correct tuning of the bow and arrows and lots of practice at home and at the club. If you have access to the Google Earth Web site and input the post code of CV7 7JS, which is at the centre of England, you should see the grounds of the Meriden Archery Club whilst a competition is actually on. It shows the Forest Grounds set up, possibly the 22nd American competition being shot, but it could be another one. The targets, archers, club house etc can clearly be seen.

From a club point, the grounds are open whenever members wish to attend, with access to the clubhouse with all the facilities. For myself, just winding down towards retirement and working as and when I need, it is absolutely ideal!

Can't wait to get equipment and get started as soon as I finish my beginners course next week, which I took elsewhere because Meriden did not have one starting until later on, but the coaches are very good and a nice helpful group of people......... like most archery nuts!

All the best - good arrows

Malcolm

G-nocks are great and you're using a unibushing with them so they protect the arrow quite well too.
