???What should it look like???

A Question To Coaches
What does a "work record" look like.....this would be our first one. What sort of information should be there? How is it laid out?
I'm asking not for myself, but a friend. Can someone share with me?
and on offer.

DeeH

I use a "session plan". It's a pretty simple document actually. If interested pm me an email address.

I have three parts to my work log.

The first part is a diary with three columns:
  • Date: when an event took place.
  • Details: very brief (4-8 words) details of the event (which may be a session of coaching someone, a course attended, a tournament shot, etc).
  • Ref: pointer to the coaching log or training log, if they hold more details.
The second part is the coaching log, where I record details of events where I've coached people. This has two columns:
  • Date: when the event took place.
  • Details: The location, numbers of people involved, some relevant information about each person, and a not-too-wordy description of the session. If I've taken any notes during the session, I'll include a reference to those.
The third part is the training log, where I record details of coach education I've received. This has three columns:
  • Date: when the event took place.
  • Venue: where the event took place.
  • Details: Brief details of the education event, with references to any more detailed notes.

I digress and did not answer the question properly. TJ's looks very thourough. You could also have a look at this. It has a work record etc on it.

Wink work record

depends on the level of coach.
it is included in the course material that is provided on level one, but I am sure that one would have been shown on the course,
basic spreadsheet wold suffice
ie date how many pupils, whether beginners or have a go. location, who working with etc

My coaching log is very simple. A word document that I record the date and a brief description of what I did, "Beginners course week n of m", "one to one coaching with xxxxxx (and a brief note about what we did)", "attended course zzzzzzzzzz", that kind of thing.
For me, my coaching log serves 2 purposes. A reminder of what I did so that when I meet with someone I have worked with, I can remember what we were doing/working on, and (2) it came in useful when I renewed my certificate adding up my cpd points.
It was important to me that the work log didnt become more important than the coaching, if you know what I mean.
As long as you can read it and someone on a renewals panel can read it, the format doesnt matter. For some a formal layout will help, but for me a documentation-phobe, an informal style is better.
The important thing is to fill it in religiously. Even if you fall back on the "general club coaching" when you dont do any big thing, just lots of little bits here and there. Make completing your work log part of what you do. If you leave it a week, or a month, youll struggle to remember what it was you did.

If your friend opts for a simple spreadsheet then a tip is to include a column for CPD points... It will make things a lot easier at renewal.
